Clara moistened her dry lips, feeling as if the universe was playing a cruel joke on her.
It was just one thing after another.
But she couldn't let Elio find out about this. If he did, he would surely pester her again, or worse, go to the Melendez family with the news.
She slowly lifted her hand, resting it on her stomach. Her emotions were in turmoil, like a piece of meat dropped into a sizzling frying pan.
What a mess! It was all her own doing!
...
The next morning.
Aiden and Alex were already up, for the first time, they ran to Sophia's bedroom.
Sophia was taken aback when she opened the door to see them.
"Why are you guys here? Aren't you supposed to be in school today?"
"Grandma, school is out today!" Alex squinted his eyes and gave her a playful smile, tugging at her sleeve, "I had so much fun playing with Ms. Calloway yesterday. Can we play together again today?"
"Of course!" Sophia laughed, then looked at Aiden, "What about you? Did you enjoy spending time with Ms. Calloway too?"
Aiden nodded earnestly, "Yes, I like it. She is very patient with us."
Sophia smiled, satisfied, and pulled Alex closer, "But why do you call Leah ‘Ms. Calloway’ now? She's been around you all along, hasn't she?"
Aiden's and Alex's reactions to Leah were different.
