Seeing that they were about to leave, Leah quickly reached out to stop them. "Hold on! I'd love to hang out with you guys! You're both so adorable, so why wouldn't I want to?"
"Really?" Alex immediately turned back, grabbing Leah's hand.
Leah cleared her throat, saying seriously, "As long as you don't tell your grandma about this, why wouldn't I want to play with you? You're both good kids. This secret isn't just to protect me, it's mainly your mom, Clara, who doesn't want this to be known, okay?"
"We understand! Mom has warned us, so we won't tell! So... you don't have to work today?"
Alex piped in, "So, you can spend the whole day with us?"
Leah could only nod reluctantly, "Yes, I can play with you guys today, we can do anything."
Seeing their joyous cheers, Leah clenched her fists tightly.
Why did these two kids seem harder to deal with than Clara? They didn't play by the rules and could always catch her off guard!
Every time, she was left speechless in front of Sophia, having to go along with their demands.
This couldn't go on!
She needed to return these two little rascals to Clara as soon as possible, or her plan might have to change!
...
Late at night.
Clara hadn't slept a wink, tossing and turning as if she were being roasted on a charcoal fire.
Finally, the morning came.
Clara paused, hesitating for a few seconds before hiding behind a tree.
"I suddenly feel something's off about this. Alex treats Leah like a stranger. I can understand Aiden acting like this, after all, Aiden grew up with us, but Alex was always with Leah, why isn't he warm to her?"
"You mean, she could be..."
"What are you thinking! I just mean, when Alex was with Leah, she didn't give our grandson exclusive attention! She didn't treat him well!"
Patrick slightly furrowed his brows, "Did you ask Alex about this?"
"I did, Alex said Leah doesn't often come home to see him because she's busy with work. That's why their mother-son relationship isn't strong and Alex doesn't rely on her much."
"But since you've already asked, why are you still dwelling on it?" Patrick took a sip from his coffee cup, "You can't possibly suspect Leah of pretending to like the two kids, right?"
