Emmett's words were abruptly cut off as his tall frame suddenly went rigid and crashed backward, without any warning.

Clara instinctively reached out to catch him, but Emmett had already lost consciousness, hitting the ground with a thud!

"Help! Somebody help!" Clara screamed in desperation, shaking Emmett frantically, "Wake up! Leah! It's about Leah! The antidote must be faulty!"

Hearing Clara's cries, people rushed into the room, each of them turning pale at the sight before them.

"Get a doctor, quick!"

"Yes, yes, yes!"

The butler burst in, not caring for decorum, grabbed a servant and barked orders, "You, inform the master and mistress! And you, fetch the doctor! Hurry up!"

Clara's instinct was to follow, but the butler shoved her aside with such force she stumbled several steps before regaining her balance.

"You harbinger of doom, you think you can follow the young master? It's your fault he's like this! If anything happens to him, heaven knows how the master and mistress will deal with you!"

"Please! Let me go too. I'm so worried about him!"

"Worried? I bet you're worried the young master might actually survive! Pathetic, playing the grieving dove when you're the serpent!"

As they disappeared from her view, Clara could only stand there in shock.

At that moment, she felt exactly as Sophia had accused her, a curse.

Without her, Emmett would not have been poisoned, and Leah wouldn't have had to seek Emmett out in such a manner.

Perhaps without her, Leah wouldn't have targeted Emmett at all.

The doctor nodded, "Yes, but this is just a preliminary diagnosis. We still need to consider other test results for a definitive conclusion."

"If it's overexertion, then it must be from working himself to the bone during the day, and then not sleeping at night because of that wench; that's why!"

The mere mention of Clara ignited a firestorm inside Sophia!

The Melendez family had been harmonious before, never facing such tribulations.
