Two Times the Charm (Clara and Emmett) novel Chapter 457

After the doctor bowed slightly, he turned and hurried back into the ER.

Sophia looked up at Leah, her face pale as a ghost. "Did you hear that? I could lose my son at any moment, Leah. I could lose him!"

With that, she broke down like a child, sobs wracking her body, completely unconcerned with her appearance.

Leah felt her heart twinge with sympathy despite knowing the reality of the situation. She had to maintain the act.

"Don't lose hope, Sophia. I'll find the best doctors out there to cure him! My mother is a Milburn; you know the Milburns have been healers for generations. I'll go straight to them and ask for their advice. We'll get Emmett through this! I owe it to my children, too. They have a complete family with him, the love of a father."

"Yes, the Milburns." Sophia clung to Leah's words like a lifeline. "You have to find what's wrong with him and cure him! He's my only son. I can't watch him die. If anything happens to him, I won't be able to live either!"

Leah nodded and hugged her. "Calm down, Sophia. Think about Emmett—he wouldn't want to see you like this. I've made a promise, and I intend to keep it."

"You're a good girl, Leah. Save my boy, and I'll give you anything!"

"Sophia, I didn't join the Melendez family for material things. I'm here for my kids, and that's all I need. But don't worry, I've already promised, haven't I? Come, sit down and try to relax."

Just as Leah finished speaking, Matt and Ricardo rushed over, having just heard the news.
