Two Times the Charm (Clara and Emmett) novel Chapter 479

Every single minute there was torture for Leah!

As soon as Emmett finished speaking, Leah bolted out the door.

Watching her slightly panicked retreat, Emmett fell into deep thought.

Something was off about that woman.

It seemed quite possible that Clara, that stupid woman, was being threatened, as Ricardo had suggested.

...

Leah hurried out of the hospital room and immediately saw Sophia waiting by the door.

Catching sight of Leah, Sophia rushed over and asked, “How did it go? Any progress with Emmett?”

Leah nodded uncomfortably, “Well, he asked me a lot of questions today. I got a bit nervous, and I couldn’t answer some of them. You don’t think he suspects I’m an impostor, do you?”

Sophia, not overthinking it, waved her hand dismissively, “No way! Besides, can you really fake the bond you have with those kids? Don’t worry so much. He’s starting to warm up to you, and that’s a good sign! I told you before, you just need to give him time to get over Clara. Look at him, he knows the value of letting go. I heard you’ve been good to the kids, and that’s bound to make an impression!”

Leah nodded, “You’re right, I’ll follow your lead from now on.”

“That’s the spirit! Listen to me, and you won’t go wrong. You’re doing this for the kids, and so am I. We should be on the same page. If you’re ever out of ideas, just do as I say, trust me! Aiden and Alex are your sons, but they’re my grandsons, the ones I’ve watched grow up. Their happiness is my concern even more than yours.”

If Emmett was beyond help, then all her efforts would be pointless.

The phone rang for a while before Newell answered lazily, “What do you want now? Haven’t I already said everything?”

“What do you mean you’ve said everything?” Leah retorted irritably, “What about the antidote? Have you developed it?”

“Of course not, I haven’t even started researching it! Why would I?” Newell scoffed on the other end, “I have no obligation to look after you for life. You only asked me to help you come up with the formula, not to improve it. Improvements and the formula are not the same price! If you’d mentioned it earlier, I might not have given you the formula at all.”

“So you’re just looking to take advantage of me, huh?” Leah clenched her fist tightly, “Fine! If it’s money you want, just tell me how much. I need Emmett back on his feet as soon as possible. Otherwise, if he dies before I marry into the family, what’s the point of all this?”
