Clara clutched at her stomach desperately.
No, this couldn't be happening!
She needed Elio now more than ever. If she lost the child, Elio would deny Emmett the medicine he needed!
Then what about Emmett?
Wasn't he still on a path headed straight for disaster?
"Please, I'm begging you. Don't harm my baby!"
"All you care about is your baby. Did you ever stop to think about how you've hurt me? How deep your betrayal cut? You're heartless, Clara! You don't give a damn about my feelings, do you?"
Clara shook her head vehemently. "I'm begging you, you can't hurt my child!"
The baby was the only thing that could save Emmett's life!
But she couldn't bring herself to say that to Emmett.
"Shut up! I don't want to hear another word. Get out of my sight!"
Emmett clenched his fists, barely containing the urge to strangle her right then and there.
To him, the child was a symbol of disgrace, something he couldn't allow to exist.
In desperation, Clara fell to her knees, "Please, have mercy on my baby. I beg you, let my baby live. Elio and I love each other truly. Can't you show a little grace?"
"Me, show grace?" Emmett scoffed, his eyebrows knitting together in a dark expression, "When have you ever shown me any grace, Clara? What does Elio have that I don't? Tell me!"
Tears streamed down Clara's face as she continued to shake her head. "You're a good man, Emmett. You're not lacking in any way. It's just that we can't be together. Please, for the love of God, spare my child."
