Chapter 176 A Web of White Lies
“Forget the feast. Just focus on getting better,” Ethan said, his voice still laced with concern.
“Okay, I promise I’ll follow doctor’s orders,” Arabella replied with a grin.
Not long after, Ethan pulled into the driveway of Cloudrise Manor.

In the grand living room, Jonathan and Florence were engaged in quiet conversation when Florence suddenly spotted Ethan wheeling Arabella inside. She immediately stood up and hurried over, her face etched with alarm.
“Arabella! What happened? How did you hurt your foot?” Florence asked, her voice tight with anxiety.
Hearing his wife, Jonathan quickly rose and joined them. Seeing his daughter in a wheelchair with one foot heavily bandaged, his expression turned grave. “What on earth happened? How did you get hurt? Everything was fine earlier.”
Arabella knew this sight would worry them.
“Mom, Dad, Arabella’s okay. She just had a little accident and scraped her foot,” Ethan interjected, trying to explain on her behalf.
Jonathan shot Ethan a stern look. “Don’t tell me it’s ‘nothing‘! Look at that bandage–it’s wrapped up like a football. That’s not just a scrape.”
Chastised by his father, Ethan fell silent, not daring to elaborate further.
“Mom, Dad, it really is just a superficial wound. Please don’t worry,” Arabella said, seeing their skepticism, and decided to speak for herself.
“You’re not fooling anyone. A bandage that bulky means it’s more than a scratch. Do you think I’ve never seen an injury before?” Florence said, clearly not buying it. She then gently wheeled Arabella over to the plush living room sofa.
Florence gazed at Arabella’s foot with deep concern, murmuring, “How could this happen?
“Arabella, tell us the truth. What really happened?”
Seeing Florence so distressed, Arabella tried to soothe her. “Mom, please sit down. I’ll explain everything. She realized she wouldn’t be able to retreat to her room and rest until she gave them a plausible reason.
“To be honest, I went to the beach today. I was… playing around and accidentally hurt my foot,” Arabella finally admitted, sticking close to the truth.
Florence frowned, studying her daughter. “You hurt yourself playing at the beach? I still think you’re holding something back.”
“Arabella, be honest with us. Don’t make your mother and me worry like this,” Jonathan said, taking a seat nearby, his eyes filled with paternal concern.

Seeing their continued disbelief and worried that Arabella might bear the brunt of their anxiety, Ethan thought for a moment and decided to shoulder the blame himself.
“I took Arabella to the beach. Everything was fine at first, but somehow she ended up hurting her foot,” he stated. “She didn’t want you to worry, so she asked me not to say anything.”
Hearing Ethan’s confession, Jonathan and Florence both turned their stern gazes toward him.
“Ethan, you’re old enough to know better. How could you let your sister get hurt while she was in your care at the beach?” Florence said, her eyes full of maternal reproach.
“You, young man! When you take your sister out, your job is to look after her. Now look–her foot is injured. Who knows how long it will take to heal?” Jonathan added.
The two of them proceeded to admonish Ethan, leaving him little room for further defense.
Listening to the reprimand, Ethan knew his story had been accepted. “You’re right. It’s completely my fault for not watching out for her better,” he said cooperatively, accepting their scolding.
Watching Ethan get blamed unfairly, Arabella felt a pang of secret guilt. She owed him one for taking the fall–she’d definitely make it up to him. A proper thank–you dinner was in order!
After their focus on Ethan subsided, Jonathan and Florence’s attention returned to Arabella with renewed concern. “Arabella, you need to rest properly for the next few days. No unnecessary moving around. If you want anything to eat, just tell me, and I’ll bring it right up to you,” Florence insisted.
“That’s right. Just name what you’re craving. Good nutrition will help you recover faster,” Jonathan added, his eyes soft with worry.
Touched by their care, Arabella said, “Mom, Dad, please don’t fret. I’ll definitely let you know if I need anything. But you don’t have to trouble yourselves bringing it upstairs—just have a maid bring it up.” It was only a minor injury, and she didn’t want to impose.
Florence quickly waved off the suggestion. “What trouble? I like taking care of my girl.”
Arabella was about to politely protest again when Ethan, sensing her reluctance, chimed in from his seat. “Arabella, just go along with Mom’s plan. Isn’t it nice to be pampered a little? I wish someone would fuss over me like that.” He gave her a meaningful look.
