Only, unlike the perpetually glamorous Ross heiress of the past, the current Cynthia was a mess. Her hair was tangled, her clothes were violently wrinkled, and she looked utterly wrecked.
Seraphina's chest tightened.
Why the hell was Cynthia here?
Was it a coincidence, or was she specifically targeting the Sinclair family?
A cold chill raced down Seraphina's spine.
But she didn't let a single trace of panic show on her face. She calmly averted her gaze and gently guided Nora by the arm.
"Get in the car, Nora."
She glanced at her parents. "Mom, Dad, let's head home for lunch."
She smoothly ushered her family into the vehicle, waiting until everyone was safely strapped in before casting one last glance across the street.
Cynthia was still standing there.
Her glare was lethal.
Seraphina's eyes hardened, and she slammed the car door shut.
The vehicle slowly merged into traffic.
Sitting in the backseat, Seraphina couldn't shake the creeping dread.
She wasn't afraid of Cynthia coming after her, but she was terrified of that psycho targeting her family.
Pulling out her phone, she quickly texted Gideon to let him know she had spotted Cynthia.
Seraphina: "She's back in the country, and she was right outside the prison. I don't know what she's planning, but I'm worried about my family. Can you arrange some security? I want them protected around the clock."
"Consider it done."
Gideon's response was instant.
"We just got word that she's back as well. We're tracking her exact location right now."
"I've already doubled the security around the Sinclair residence, and Lily has her own detail. Don't worry, I won't give her a single opportunity to hurt you or your family."
Reading his words, the tight knot in Seraphina's chest finally began to loosen.
"Thank you, Gideon."
"You never have to thank me."
Gideon replied, "Seraphina, I know what you're worried about. But with me here, you don't have to carry this alone."
A soft wave of warmth washed over her heart.
"Okay."
...
By the time they arrived at the Sinclair residence, it was almost noon.
Clara had prepared a massive feast, the table entirely covered with all the dishes Nora loved as a kid.
