Upgraded Space Thrive in Apocalypse Reborn (caroline) novel Chapter 101

**TITLE: Doomsday Rebirth 101**
**Chapter 101: The Deep Freeze Warning**

As darkness enveloped the world outside, Caroline felt an unsettling chill creep into the air, wrapping around her like a cold embrace.

She mentally counted the days that had slipped by since the acidic rain had finally ceased its relentless downpour.

In her previous life, she vividly recalled that the deep freeze had arrived only a few days after the rain had stopped.

A frown tugged at her lips as she turned her gaze toward Raven. “Do you sense it too? The temperature is definitely dropping, isn’t it?”

Her fingers brushed against his fur, and she noticed how much thicker it had become.

Animals possessed an instinctive ability to sense shifts in the weather far more acutely than humans could. Since she had been bathing both Raven and Jet in a mixture of spring water and the acidic rain, their mutations had accelerated at an alarming rate.

A knot of unease twisted in her chest; the deep freeze was looming just around the corner.

Suddenly, a thunderous roar erupted from the ground beneath her, shaking her to her core.

The floor quaked violently, causing her heart to momentarily halt in her chest. She had experienced earthquakes before, and the familiar terror flooded back, overwhelming her senses.

But something felt amiss. “No, this isn’t right,” she murmured, forcing herself to breathe as she regained her composure.

“The timing is all wrong. A quake shouldn’t happen now.”

Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed a cloud of dust rising ominously outside the window.

With urgency, she stumbled toward the glass door, and what she witnessed sent icy dread coursing through her veins.

Buildings were collapsing, one after another, in a catastrophic display.

It began with a twelve-story apartment that crumbled into a heap of rubble. When it fell, it crashed into the adjacent building, dragging it down in a catastrophic embrace.

Within mere seconds, the scene transformed into a nightmarish chain reaction, akin to a line of colossal dominoes tumbling one after the other.

Finally, a fifteen-story tower tilted precariously and smashed into a thirty-story building beside it, sending shockwaves through the ground.

The taller edifice groaned under the strain, producing a deafening crash—but somehow, it managed to remain standing.

Barely.

The devastation halted there, but the aftermath was harrowing.

In the blink of an eye, more than a dozen structures had been reduced to mere heaps of debris beneath the acid-laden sky.

No one could possibly quantify the number of lives that had just been extinguished within those crumbling homes.

Most of the fallen buildings were relics of the past, neglected for years, and had been further weakened by the unrelenting rain.

In her previous life, only the old, poorly maintained structures had succumbed to the devastation.

Even if they had survived the acidic rain, the disasters that followed had proven too much to bear.

But this time felt different. She recalled passing by their building before; it had stood resolute in the heart of the city.

And this time, she had personally treated its walls with anti-corrosion material before everything fell apart. It should be even stronger now.

Yet, what gnawed at her was the impending deep freeze that could arrive at any moment.

As the meeting concluded, Caroline mentioned the noticeable drop in temperature. “Raven’s fur seems thicker than before,” she remarked, her voice laced with concern.

Tyler’s interest piqued. He reached out to feel Raven’s fur, his expression turning grave. “Animals can detect environmental changes faster than we can,” he said. “If Raven is evolving, it might be a warning—the winter this year will be harsher than ever. With no electricity or heating, everyone should wear more layers at night and pile up blankets or furs by the windows to fend off the cold.”

Caroline felt a surge of appreciation for his quick thinking. Taking Raven along, she made her way back to her apartment, her stomach rumbling in anticipation of dinner.

Tonight’s meal: creamy Cajun-style pasta, a small comfort amid the chaos.

With only a handful of residents left in the building, she felt at ease, knowing that the smell of her cooking wouldn’t betray her presence.

After savoring every bite of her pasta, she took a moment to check the items produced by JunkEater in her storage space. The clock had already ticked past ten.

Today’s haul, fittingly enough for the impending deep freeze, consisted of two pairs of thick, heavy wool socks.
