Upgraded Space Thrive in Apocalypse Reborn (caroline) novel Chapter 102

**TITLE: Doomsday Rebirth 102**
**Chapter 102: The First Night of the Freeze**

The chill of impending doom wrapped around Farm One as it puffed up two peculiar lumps once more. Caroline stood at the window, her brow furrowed in confusion. What strange growths would emerge from these oddities this time? The uncertainty gnawed at her, the mystery deepening the unease that had settled in her gut.

As night fell, she carefully placed her luxurious mink coat beside her bed, a comforting weight against the encroaching cold. She stuffed the stove full of firewood, her heart racing with anticipation for the brutal freeze that could descend upon them at any moment. The air felt thick with tension, as if the very atmosphere was holding its breath.

The stillness of the night was shattered when Raven, her loyal companion, roused her with gentle licks to her face. Caroline blinked against the darkness, her eyes meeting the anxious gaze of Raven. His usually vibrant eyes were clouded with concern, and a shiver ran down her spine as she registered the icy grip of the air around her.

The cold seeped into her bones, her hands and feet numb and unresponsive. With urgency, she snatched up the thermometer, her breath hitching as she saw the reading plummet to a staggering 9°F below zero. Panic surged through her veins.

“Not now,” she muttered under her breath, her voice barely a whisper in the chilling silence. Without wasting a moment, she threw on her mink coat and sprinted to the stove, desperately striking a match to ignite the kindling.

As the flames flickered to life, a sense of relief washed over her, but it was short-lived. A sinking feeling took hold when she realized Jet was missing. “Where’s Jet?” she called out, her voice laced with anxiety as she scanned the room.

Raven shifted slightly, and beneath his warm belly, she spotted Jet curled up, trembling and vulnerable. The poor creature let out a weak chirp, a sound so fragile it tugged at her heartstrings.

“Oh no, Jet,” she breathed, rushing over to him. His little body shivered violently, the cold having overwhelmed him in the blink of an eye. The mutation that had promised him resilience was still incomplete; he was ill-equipped to face such frigid temperatures.

“Raven, you saved him,” Caroline said, her voice trembling with gratitude and fear. Raven had sensed the drop in temperature before anyone else, instinctively dragging Jet beneath him for warmth and then tirelessly working to rouse her from her slumber.

As she contemplated placing Jet back into her storage space for safety, something caught her eye. Tiny, delicate hairs were sprouting from Jet’s body, a sign of his rapid evolution in the face of adversity.

“Look at you, Jet,” she murmured, a spark of hope igniting within her. “You’re adapting.” She set down a small dish of food before him. “Eat up, Jet. The faster you mutate, the stronger you’ll become.”

Turning to Raven, she instructed, “Stay close to him and keep him warm until he’s finished mutating.” There was a sense of urgency in her tone as she wrapped herself tightly in her coat, determination fueling her as she dashed out the door.
