Thinking about all that, Caroline slowly fell asleep.

She had no idea that while she slept, Tyler and Denton returned to the base with grim faces.
Yes–during that time, the two of them had gone out.
The main gate of the base was closed. They had slipped out earlier through a small side door.
Before the gate shut, they were among the last people to return. They happened to train nearby the base.
Tyler had taken Denton out for a run nearby. He even planned to catch a few mutated creatures to bring back for Caroline.
If they ran into something strong, they could also use it as practice.
Then, they heard an explosion.
After that came a howling sandstorm.
Unlike Caroline, they were already very close to the explosion when it happened.
They did not find Haroldson because they ran in the opposite direction from where he had – escaped.
They followed the sound of the blast and saw something strange.
It looked like a wild boar, with two giant tusks. But it was not quite a boar. Its claws were like an eagle’s, and its tail was short and sleek, like a leopard’s.
The strange creature was very likely a mutated beast. Later, Tyler believed it was some kind of boar. The creature was covered in wounds. Its hide was torn open in many places, blood flowing out. It looked half–dead. When Tyler and Denton got close, the creature did not notice them.
This led them to suspect the creature’s connection to the explosion.
At the same time, they could feel how violent it was. It kept letting out hoarse roars. Its massive tusks rolled and shifted, as if it wanted to charge at someone.
Nearby, they saw several severed limbs, but the bodies were gone.

Blood stained the creature’s mouth, tusks, and claws. They could not tell if it had eaten those people.
Both Denton and Tyler were extremely tense. A powerful pressure came from the creature’s body.
Even Tyler did not dare to act rashly. He only watched from a distance.
Before they could observe it more closely, a sudden sandstorm hit and blew them away.
They saw it with their own eyes. The sandstorm started from the boar itself. The tornado rose straight into the sky from its body.
As if the sandstorm and the tornado were its abilities.
The two of them were thrown far away and took a long time to steady themselves.
Denton asked Tyler what he thought. Tyler simply said they should go back to the base.
That was how, in the middle of the sandstorm, they happened to see Nelson rushing back. They pulled him to safety along the way.
At first, they planned to tell Caroline everything, but they never found the time.
Later, they talked it over and decided to investigate the creature again before reporting back.
This time, though, they learned nothing useful.
They could not even get close.
The sandstorm had grown much stronger. Visibility outside was terrifyingly low.
Tyler and Denton both had excellent senses of direction and amazing stamina, but they still could not make it through. At one point, they nearly got separated.
The sandstorm felt like it carried thick fog inside it. It simply would not let anyone move forward.
They struggled outside for several hours before deciding to return.
They had been circling near the base the whole time.
They even saw the tornado–one that had already disappeared–come back from the distance. From the look of it, it was heading straight toward them.
