“All work and no play makes a smart kid dull.

“I’m tired. Really tired. Let me rest for a couple of days…”

She chose to slack off right now for a few reasons.

First, ever since the earthquake, Caroline felt like she hadn’t caught her breath.

Her brain was always on high alert, like she was being chased.

Every day brought a new crisis or a new enemy.

This was way off from her original plan–stock up supplies and live a chill, comfortable life after the apocalypse.

Second, the base was pretty safe.

Even if people wanted to cause trouble, it was usually just petty stuff–like Brittany throwing trash at her door or bringing a brother over to act tough. Nothing truly dangerous.

It was much safer than being outside.

And also… she was craving comfort. She was tired. She wanted to pet the panda cubs!

They were so cute, and the mother panda was getting chubbier by the day. With animals this cute around, if she didn’t pet them now, where would she find them after leaving the base?

“Just let me have a few peaceful days. Just a few days of doing absolutely nothing,” Caroline muttered to herself as she drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, Caroline didn’t get up right away for once.

She stayed in bed.

She just lay there, looking at the adorable panda cubs, petting one, then another.

She had seven panda cubs now!

After a few days, they had grown to almost the length of her forearm.

When they crawled around, they covered the bed like a small, furry carpet.

The one that used to have a broken spine was now the fattest of them all.

Maybe it was because he drank Nelson’s blood, then spring water, and Caroline kept feeding him milk these past few days. It had grown super fast.

It also seemed to know Caroline had saved it more than once, so it was super clingy. As soon as she showed up, it would try to climb up her arm.

Chapter 652 Peaceful Days

When she walked away, it screamed at the top of its lungs.

The problem was, his voice sounded awful–like a giant rat.

That morning, Caroline got out of bed feeling great and spent some time chatting with Jet.

Jet had been acting extra needy again because he could tell Caroline was in a good mood.

“Human, Snow told me Raven was bullying her again, but she said she was happy. Why is that?”

Jet kept chirping nonstop. Caroline felt like her head was about to split in two.

For breakfast, she made herself some poached chicken with pasta, poured a glass of coconut juice, and ate in total comfort.

She even wanted to read a book–but Jet just wouldn’t stop talking.

Left with no choice, Caroline tossed Jet an iPad. After the last incident, she’d confiscated it.

But Jet was like a teenage boy with internet withdrawal–no screen meant he’d terrorize everyone around him.

Somehow, giving him the iPad back only made him more unbearable.

After breakfast, Caroline went out to spar with Tyler and the others. When she returned, she found Jet winking at her.

“You’re back already, sweetheart?”

He tried to make his tough, manly voice sound sexy and flirty. It was really hard to listen!
