The voice sounded urgent.

Nelson frowned.

Caroline wanted to go by herself, but the person outside said Nelson had to come too.

“Go ahead,” Tyler said. “I’ll stay here and watch Shane. If he wakes up early, I’ll explain everything or keep him occupied.”

With no other choice, Caroline nodded.

She and Nelson left together.

The one who called them out was Alger. On the way, Caroline asked him what was going

Alger frowned so hard his face looked all scrunched up. “A few strange people have shown up at the base these past few days. The army tried to question them, but we couldn’t figure anything out. That’s why we asked you and Professor Valdez to take a look.”

Then, Alger told them about the beautiful woman who had arrived a few days ago–the one with gills growing under her ears.

Not long after the woman arrived, three more people showed up. They looked just like her- scales on their bodies, gills behind their ears. And when they arrived, they said the same thing, “Water. Need water.”

Hearing this, Caroline and Nelson looked at each other. Both of them were clearly shocked. Four people, all with the same strange appearance. If they were all ability users, that would mean they had the same ability.

It wasn’t impossible, but the chances were low.
