Chapter 673 Just a Talk

Over the past few days, Kay could clearly tell how much attention Francis had been giving her.
Kay had been pretty since childhood, so she had never lacked admirers growing up.
Back in college, the people chasing after her could line up from her classroom door all the way to the back door of the neighboring classroom.
She had dated a few times as well, but all of those relationships eventually fizzled out.
She had seen all kinds of tactics used to pursue women.
But someone like Francis was actually quite unusual.
What Kay truly appreciated was the masculine presence Francis carried, his ability to stay calm and decisive in the midst of disaster, his orderly command under pressure, and the courage to charge at the front during combat.
As a soldier herself, she was definitely susceptible to that kind of thing.
But it still wasn’t enough to move her heart.
Caroline didn’t continue asking. She figured she and Tyler hadn’t even sorted things out yet, so why meddle in other people’s affairs?
With danger looming ahead, staying alive came first.
The moment Tyler crossed Caroline’s mind, there was a knock at the door.
She opened it to find Tyler standing outside, looking like he had something to say.
“Can we talk?”
Tyler asked, his eyes fixed tightly on Caroline.
Neither of them knew how it happened, but as they walked, they somehow ended up outside the base.
The base was still surrounded by sandstorms, but according to drone reports from earlier that day, the area of Hornvale covered in sand had already shrunk significantly, and the winds around the base were noticeably weaker than before.
This was a sign that the energy left behind by the mutated creature was gradually dissipating.
It probably wouldn’t be many more days before the sandstorms completely cleared.
The base was no longer under lockdown, though civilians were still advised not to leave unless necessary. When Caroline and Tyler went out, no one stopped them.

less free than living on the 66th floor.
Amid the swirling sand, the two found shelter behind a wind–blocking structure and sat down.
From where they were, they could faintly make out the moon flickering through the sky.

It was still technically a period of great heat, but the recent sandstorms had lowered the temperature a little.
When the wind picked up, it even felt a bit cool.
Since there were no illuminated buildings nearby aside from the glowing base itself, Caroline took out a small lamp from her space once they reached the
ructure.
It was only palm–sized, and the light it gave off barely illuminated a few feet around them.
But it was enough for the two of them to see each other clearly.
After sitting down, they stayed silent for a long time, simply watching the sandstorm ahead.
After a while, Tyler spoke. “I just wanted to talk to you.”
All of a sudden, Caroline felt as if something had gently touched her heart.
These days, the two of them hadn’t talked much.
They had both been too busy.
Ever since arriving at the base, one thing after another kept piling on, as if she were constantly being chased by events, without a single moment to breathe.
She had just thought about taking it easy for a couple of days when the Sea Folk incident happened. Thinking about it now, it had been many days since she and Tyler had shared a conversation alone, unrelated to danger or official business.
She lifted her head and saw Tyler quietly looking at her.
Tyler’s eyes were darker than most people’s, which always gave him an emotional look when he gazed at
someone.
At this moment, the way Tyler looked at Caroline made her feel as if she were being looked at with profound affection, as though he had poured all the emotions in his heart into his eyes, laying them bare for her to see.
“Caroline, I can’t wait any longer.
“The apocalypse might take a long time to end. Can I love you now?”
Although Tyler phrased it as a question, his tone made it sound like a statement.
Tyler didn’t want to wait until the end of the world to love the girl in front of him.
