Chapter 682 What’s Wrong?
Even though the description sounded confusing, Caroline caught several key points.
After parting with Haroldson, his words kept looping in her head.

Combined with what Shane had said earlier, a terrifying idea popped up. What if the man in the desert could enter living creatures and even control how they mutated?
The thought made her break out in a cold sweat. If that were true, it would be horrifying.
There had to be limits to that power. Otherwise, Caroline would probably already be a target.
After all, that man had asked Shane to bring her to him.
If he could control her directly, there’d be no need for Shane at all.
“Caroline.”
Someone called her name from ahead, snapping her out of her thoughts.
She looked up and met a familiar pair of deep eyes.
Sharp brows hovered above them, drawn together in worry.
It was Tyler.
“What’s on your mind?” he asked softly.
Before Caroline could answer, Tyler reached out. His warm fingers touched her forehead.
His fingertips pressed lightly between her brows, like he was trying to smooth the crease away.
Caroline felt her tense expression slowly relax.
As her brow relaxed, so did his.
She smiled faintly. “I got some info from Haroldson. Let’s go over it together.”

even the apocalypse itself, then his power is almost godlike. Could it be the same kind of energy as Shane’s ability? If not, there’s another possibility.
“He might have multiple abilities. Three, maybe even seven. Or he could be like the Sea Folk- a species we’ve never seen, something that doesn’t rely on abilities at all, but something stranger.”
Caroline nodded gently.
His theory made sense. Still, about what that man truly was, they’d only find out when they met him.
They talked a bit longer. When dinner time came, the two ate together, chatting about lighter things before splitting up.
As Caroline walked into her room, she suddenly felt eyes on her.
She turned around and saw Tyler still standing there, not far away, quietly watching her.
“I’m walking you back,” he said softly.
Light from the window brushed across his face.
For a moment, Tyler looked unusually gentle.
His slightly overgrown buzz cut caught the light, turning faintly golden and softening his sharp features.
Caroline’s heart skipped a few hard beats.
She nodded lightly and went inside.
But the second the door closed, she leaned against it, breathing hard. Her heart felt like it might jump out of her chest.
Tyler’s voice still echoed in her ears.
That feeling barely lasted a few seconds–because she suddenly met a pair of aggrieved, angry
eyes.
