The man walked closer to Caroline. At nearly six feet tall, his presence alone was threatening.
But she wasn’t afraid. She just thought he sounded ridiculous.
“Why would I fight you?”
She already had more than enough to deal with.
“Because you
bullied my wife and daughter. Yeah, they were wrong, but as the man of the family, I have to take responsibility. If I win, I’ll apologize for what they did. If I lose, I’ll accept it and shut up!”
He seemed like the kind of person who only followed single line of thought. He stared at Caroline with a strangely blank look.
That was when Caroline realized who he was–Brittany’s husband, Alaric, the so–called strongest ability user.
The sandstorm must have ended. The Hornvale base needed guards again, so they had called him back.
Before Caroline could respond, the door beside her suddenly opened.
Tyler stepped out coldly. His slightly messy hair made it obvious he’d just woken up.
“I’ll fight you,” he said.
Alaric frowned in confusion and looked at Tyler. “What does this have to do with you?”
“You’re fighting for your woman,” Tyler said, pointing at him.
Then he pointed at Caroline. “I’m fighting for mine.”
His eyes turned deep and sharp. “That’s fair.”
Alaric froze for a moment before reacting. “Wait … Caroline is your woman?”
Tyler answered smoothly, “Yeah. Enough talking. Are we fighting or not?”

Alaric gritted his teeth, a sharp gleam flashing in his eyes. “Same rules as before. If I win, I’ll

still apologize to your woman for my wife and kid. If you win, I’ll admit they messed with the wrong person. But we stop before it goes too far. I’ve got a family.”
Tyler nodded. “Deal. Then let’s fight for our women.”
From Caroline’s angle, she clearly saw the corner of his mouth lift, a hint of mischief in his
eyes.
Her face heated up instantly.
She knew he was doing it on purpose. He kept saying “my woman” just to tease her.
“You two go fight. I need to check on Nelson.”
Blushing, Caroline slipped into Nelson’s room, leaving Tyler to cause trouble outside.
In her view, Tyler was practically itching to announce to the whole world that they were together.
There was no way he’d miss such a perfect excuse to fight.
But just before closing the door, Caroline deliberately winked at Tyler. “By the way–win or lose, come find me later. I think I still need to step in and smooth things over.”
Alaric was the strongest ability user. No matter what his ability was, she wanted to copy it.
With that, she shut the door firmly.
Inside, she found Nelson slumped over the desk, fast asleep.
Drool had soaked into his sleeve, which looked oddly funny.
Behind him were the dissected bodies, neatly stitched back together and laid straight. Caroline had no idea how he managed to sleep in a place like that.
She walked over and gently tapped his shoulder. “Nelson, wake up. Time to eat. Nelson…”
After a few taps, Nelson snapped awake. He looked at Caroline, the corner of his mouth still stained with some unknown liquid, panic flashing across his face. “Caroline, I found something!”
It turned out he had spent the entire night dissecting and studying the corpses.
After nonstop work, he discovered that the Sea Folk weren’t very different from humans in structure. But their blood was completely different, and their bodies actually depended on
