Vengeful Billionaire and His Lovers (Jerome Howard) novel Chapter 6

"Honestly, I just got lucky. The company I bought belonged to my uncle's friend, so the acquisition was pretty smooth."

Selena rested her elbow on the table. Her bright eyes locked on Henry, and there was something strange in her look.

She wasn't even trying to hide that she was interested in him.

Henry held her gaze for a moment before giving in.

He also grabbed a book and said, "You're the legal owner of the company now, so you need to keep everything running smoothly. With your new project, make sure you handle it properly. Don't slack off just because you've taken over. Finances and taxes come first. Don't let hidden issues build up, or you'll pay for it later. Business is business. And don't put too much trust in those tangled connections."

"Hehe, worried about me, are you?"

Selena's eyes sparkled as she reached out, trying to pinch his cheek.

"Cut it out."

Henry stayed calm and gently moved her hand away.

But she didn't back off and grabbed his hand instead. Her voice was full of excitement. "Mr. Zeigler, I never dated anyone in university. You know how I feel. Your wife isn't a good match. You should divorce her. I—"

"That's enough."

Henry pulled his hand back, saying firmly, "Some things shouldn't be said out loud. If you do, we can't stay friends."

Selena's smile faded.

He suddenly asked, "You just said my wife isn't a good match. What do you mean?"

She hesitated, biting her lip.

Seeing her struggle, Henry's heart skipped a beat, but he kept his voice steady. "Don't be scared. Just say it."

"Okay, but don't blame me. I only heard this from others. I can't be sure whether it's true," she said carefully.

When Henry nodded, Selena finally spoke.

"Mrs. Zeigler is pretty famous in high society. You probably know that."

With her beauty, figure, and status as CEO of a billion-dollar company, Luciana was definitely well-known. She was the dream girl for countless men in Skysouth City.

"When I was working on the acquisition, my uncle set up dinner. That's where I heard people talking about your wife. They said ... "

Selena hesitated again. Henry's chest tightened. He didn't want to hear it and wanted to run away, but he forced himself to stay calm. "Go on."

"They said your wife is ... pretty wild. She's been spotted going in and out of hotels with a big shot. Someone even saw her dancing with him at a banquet."

Henry felt like he'd been punched in the stomach. Pain shot through him, and his fists clenched so hard that his knuckles went white.

He believed Selena wouldn't lie. And after what he'd seen yesterday, his emotions were a mess.

It was like a perfect painting had been ripped open to reveal something filthy underneath.

Luciana, is this who you truly are?

Have you been pretending all these years?

He couldn't imagine it. If it were true, what could he do? His whole family's life would collapse.

"Mr. Zeigler, are you okay?" Selena asked, covering his hand with hers and showing concern.

Henry forced a smile. "I'm fine. You should go home. I'll treat you to dinner another day."

She looked worried but knew she shouldn't linger. He needed some space. Biting her lip, she said softly, "Don't overthink it. Things will get better. No matter what, I'll be here for you."

With that, she left, glancing back as she walked away.

Henry sat there, lost in thought. His mind was spinning.

The library was filling up with people.

Just then, his phone rang, pulling him out of his daze. He then realized an hour had passed.

Seeing "Honey" on the screen, he felt his heart ache. He didn't know what to believe anymore, but rumors didn't appear out of nowhere.

Henry didn't ask anything else and just hung up.

He stood and walked out of the library. In the car, his whole vibe changed.

If he had seemed clear and determined before, now he was precise and unwavering.

He'd gone from relaxed to alert, ready to fight.

"Luciana, you lied to me again.

"I'm your husband, so I know you. You're independent, tough, and stubborn. What happened yesterday is done. Even if I had brought it up, you wouldn't have acted so carefully. If you had nothing to hide, you'd have gotten mad and made me apologize.

"But you didn't. You admitted you were wrong. That's not like you.

"So, you're lying!

"You're testing me. You're hiding something—something you don't want me to see."

Henry muttered quietly in the car, his eyes red, tears sliding down his cheeks.

Why lie? What could you be hiding?

There was only one possibility. Whatever her secret was, it had to be messy, maybe even ugly. If it came out, it could ruin everything between them.

That was why Luciana was so scared to tell him, careful and nervous.

Henry took a deep breath and squared his shoulders. He had made up his mind.

He wasn't going to chase after the truth.

All he could do was make himself stronger.

If he became the richest man in Skysouth, he'd crush that so-called big shot beneath him.

Then, the truth would be right there in front of him, clear as day.
