Wait…Why Did Everyone I Love Suddenly Call Me a Bitch?! novel Chapter 19

Chapter 3

Mia returned home in silence, pretending to know nothing about the truth.

Over the next week, she donated all her assets to establish a charitable foundation.

She threw herself into the work-fundraising, building a team from scratch.

But her health was deteriorating rapidly. She’d started collapsing without warning.

When Dominic worried and tried to take her to the hospital, Mia stopped him.

“The doctor said this is normal. It’ll get better after the kidney transplant at the end of the month.”

He squeezed her hand apologetically.

“Mia, the company’s been swamped lately. After your surgery, I’ll clear my schedule to take proper care of you.”

“Tomorrow’s the foundation launch-I’ll try to get there early to be with you.”

Mia noticed a long hair that wasn’t hers caught in his white shirt collar. She nodded quietly.

But silently, she thought: It doesn’t matter anymore.

The next day, Mia dragged her swollen body into a gown one last time and took the stage for the ribbon cutting.

Just as applause thundered through the room, a sharp scream cut through the noise.

She looked toward the sound to see the crowd parting around a pregnant woman sitting on the ground, clutching her belly. The woman looked up-it was Letty Kane.

At that moment, Mia’s scalp went numb as she froze in place.

She’d been avoiding them like a fool, just wanting to die in peace.

isted on forcing her to face the bloody truth, unwilling to leave her even a shred of dignity.

minic arrived, dozens of cameras were trained on the stage while Letty knelt before Mia, clutching her legs and pleading desperately.

Her forehead was bloody and raw, her voice choked with tears.

“I’m so sorry, Mia. I really didn’t disappear on purpose back then.”

“Those people kept threatening me, saying they’d kill me if I dared testify in court.”

“I’ve lived with guilt and pain every single day for three years. If Mr. Cross hadn’t protected me, I would have killed myself when your Mom and Dad died. I know I’m deeply sinful. I don’t ask for your forgiveness-I just hope you’ll spare my life, okay?”

Reporters and media personnel looked back and forth between them with excited, gossipy eyes. When they saw Dominic arrive, microphones immediately thrust toward him.

“Mr. Cross, she said you protected her? What’s your relationship? Is that your child in her belly?”

Dominic kept his head down coldly, refusing to answer any questions. He immediately had security clear the room. Within minutes, only Mia and Letty remained in the vast banquet hall.

He approached, instinctively reaching to help Letty up, but pulled his hand back at the last second.

When he looked at Mia, there was blame in his eyes.

“Mia, whatever this is about, did you really need to make her kneel?”

Mia just looked down at Letty, asking calmly:

“If you’ve been hiding for three years, why show up today?”

Letty’s body stiffened as she said pitifully.

“I heard you established a foundation and had every charity worker looking for me… Mia, I’ve been hiding for three years. I can barely survive anymore!”

“Please, can you spare the child in my belly? Let him grow up safely. He already doesn’t have a father-isn’t that pitiful enough? I’ll do anything to atone, work like a slave if you want.”

Dominic spoke up then.

“Mia, I’ve investigated what happened back then. It wasn’t her fault-she was just powerless and got used by others.”

“She’s lived in repentance for three years. Stop being so aggressive. Can’t you just move forward?”

Mia looked at him, but not a single word of her accusations made it past her throat.

It was Letty who’d betrayed her trust and indirectly killed her parents. It was Letty who’d had an affair with her husband and gotten pregnant. It was Letty who’d destroyed her foundation. And it was Letty kneeling before her, forcing her to forgive.

So who exactly was being aggressive?

Her whole body went weak, chest pain nearly suffocating her. But she held onto her last shred of dignity, keeping her back straight as she turned and walked away alone.

Only when she got in the car did she collapse heavily in the back seat.

She closed her eyes, letting tears slide down from the corners. But what appeared in her mind was the image of Dominic lifting Letty up, tenderly wiping the wounds on her forehead. He couldn’t even wait for Mia to completely disappear from the banquet hall.

Her phone rang. She answered, and curses exploded directly in her ear through the speaker.

“You fraud spawn, acting like some saint with your foundation! Your money’s dirty, disgusting!”

“Your parents deserved to die! You should hurry up and join them in hell, bitch! Making a pregnant woman kowtow to you-aren’t you afraid you’ll be cursed? I heard you were a bully since childhood! Just go die already!”

Mia hung up abruptly, but the phone kept ringing.

Text after text poured in.

She didn’t know what was happening until the driver handed over his phone.

“Mrs. Cross Forces Pregnant Woman to Kneel in Apology at Foundation Event-Investigation Reveals Her Parents Were Both Fraudsters Who Embezzled Hundreds of Millions!”

“According to insider sources, during her school years, Mrs. Cross bullied impoverished student Letty K. for years, demanding the victim submit to her completely. The victim wasn’t even allowed to get better grades, or Mrs. Cross would stop funding her and make physical threats.”

The accompanying photo showed Letty kneeling and kowtowing before her.

Mia’s knuckles went white gripping the phone. She scrolled through comment after comment. Several people claiming to be her high school classmates had come forward to “confirm” her bullying of Letty.

Her breathing grew more and more rapid. Her hands shook as she tried to type explanations, but her comments were deleted the moment she posted them.

The driver in front suddenly accelerated, glancing in the rearview mirror nervously:

“Ma’am, there are over a dozen cars that have been chasing us.”

Mia looked back and noticed the cars had no license plates. The people inside wore masks and were waving iron bars out the windows.

Panicked, she grabbed her phone and dialed Dominic’s number, watching in terror as the cars closed in behind them.

At that very moment in the banquet hall, Dominic was frowning at the trending topics on his phone.

He called his assistant to deal with those ridiculous rumors, but the next second, Letty grasped his hand.

Tears dripped onto his skin as her shoulders trembled.

Dominic gripped her shoulders, his voice heavy:

“What they’re saying online… is it true?”

Letty choked out a sob and threw herself into his arms.

“Dominic, I don’t want to remember those times. It’s too painful.”

“It’s all in the past. Don’t blame Mia-I’m sure she didn’t mean it.”

“She sponsored me, so she’s my savior. Whatever she did to me was deserved. Even if she told me to die right now, I… I wouldn’t dare disobey.”

Dominic wrapped his arms around Letty, holding her tightly as his eyes reddened with heartache.

Thinking about how she’d saved him in that alley during high school while enduring daily bullying from Mia made breathing difficult.

If only he’d known earlier-he would have protected her!

Mia’s call kept ringing beside him. He glared at the screen in fury and switched the phone off entirely.
