Chapter 4
CRASH!
After the violent impact, the car flipped over on the roadside.
Before Mia could recover from the jarring collision, the car door was yanked open. Several people roughly dragged her from the wreckage and threw her to the ground.
Sharp stones scraped against her skin, the pain contorting her features. As she struggled to crawl up, a foot pressed down hard on her back.
“When you were bullying others, did you ever think this day would come?”
“Damn, that crash didn’t even kill you. What a stubborn life!”
Mia weakly tried to defend herself.
“I didn’t…”
But before she could finish, a vicious slap landed squarely on her face, immediately drawing blood from the corner of her mouth.
“Still trying to act innocent?”
“Quick, get some close-up shots of her. Let the netizens see and blow off some steam.”
The flash was so bright it blurred her vision. When she tried to shield her face, they pinned her down and bound her wrists with rope.
“So you like bullying, huh? Let’s give you a taste of what’s worse than death.”
Mia watched in terror as they tied the other end of the rope to the back of a car. The moment the engine started, the massive force began dragging her along the ground.
Broken stones tore through her clothes and skin, leaving bloody gashes across her body.
Her already weakened body could barely produce a hoarse cry for help. She could only let the rope pull her battered, dying form across the
rough, uneven pavement.
The people in the car leaned out the windows to film her suffering, their laughter piercing her ears as her consciousness gradually faded.
Blood covered her entire body until she couldn’t even feel the pain anymore.
After what felt like an eternity, the car stopped and the rope was untied. Mia was dumped on the ground like garbage.
When she regained consciousness, everything around her was deathly quiet. In the moonlight, she could see countless grave markers.
At that moment, she felt no fear at all. How could the dead be more terrifying than the living?
She struggled to her feet, stumbling alone until she found the main road.
By the time dawn broke on the horizon and her last bit of strength was completely exhausted, her vision went black and she collapsed unconscious by the roadside.
“You’re awake? Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere else?”
Mia opened her eyes to find a nurse adjusting her IV drip.

The slightest movement sent pain shooting through her entire body like thousands of needles.
“You were brought in by ambulance. We couldn’t reach your family. You’ll need to complete the admission paperwork and pay the fees later. Also, about your condition, you…”
Mia interrupted: “I know.”
She tugged her hospital gown down to cover the wounds covering her body.
The nurse offered to get her a wheelchair, but Mia refused. She supported herself against the wall as she walked out of the room, each step feeling like her entire body was being rolled across a bed of nails.
She’d been gone all night, and Dominic hadn’t even looked for her.
She remembered when she was first diagnosed with kidney cancer, sitting alone in a daze by her parents’ graves. She’d only disappeared for two hours, but missing person notices had already flooded the internet, mobilizing everyone from legitimate businesses to underground networks.
When Dominic found her then, his eyes were bloodshot, tears soaking her shoulder as he pulled her into his arms.
In that moment, had there been even a trace of genuine feeling?
Now, his heart and eyes were full of Letty. Whether Mia lived or died seemed irrelevant.
A long queue stretched in front of the payment counter. Mia stood quietly at the back when a familiar voice suddenly came from behind her.
“Dominic, I’m really fine now. You don’t need to be so nervous.”
Letty’s voice carried a coquettish tone.
Mia’s entire body went rigid. She didn’t dare turn around.
She hadn’t expected to encounter them at this hospital. She should have gone to a different one.
Dominic’s voice was jarringly gentle.
“The doctor said you have signs of threatened miscarriage. You have to be careful.”
“If Mia hadn’t forced you to kneel yesterday…”
Letty interrupted him.
“I’m used to it. It’s okay. I understand Mia. It’s all my fault for being too impulsive.”
Mia clenched her fists, her fingernails digging deep into her palms.
She turned to leave but met Dominic’s surprised gaze.
“Mia?”
His surprise quickly turned to anger.
“Are you following us?”
Letty immediately hid behind Dominic, trembling all over.
“Mia. I didn’t do anything online. Can you please leave me alone? Stop scaring me. I’m in my third trimester-the doctor said I really can’t handle

any more emotional stress.”
“After I give birth, you can beat me or scold me however you want. I’ll accept it all.”
Dominic immediately stepped protectively in front of Letty, his voice ice cold:
“I’m here to help you atone. She nearly had a miscarriage yesterday because you forced her to kneel!”
“What more do you want?”
Mia opened her mouth. She wanted to tell him she’d nearly died, wanted to show him the wounds covering her body.
But seeing the undisguised disgust in his eyes, all explanations stuck in her throat.
Letty suddenly bent over, her face pale as paper.
“Dominic, my stomach hurts so much…”
Without hesitation, Dominic swept Letty up in his arms and rushed toward the doctors’ offices.
His movements were so urgent that his shoulder slammed hard into Mia.
Already weakened, she fell to the ground like a fallen leaf, her elbow hitting the marble floor with a heavy thud.
Dominic didn’t even look back.
Mia sat on the floor, watching their retreating figures for a long, long time-so long that other people began giving her strange looks. Finally, she
slowly stood up and numbly continued waiting in line.
