Chapter 5
When it was Mia’s turn, she directly processed her discharge.
The nurse glanced at her medical chart, frowning deeply.
“In your condition, if you insist on being discharged now, you could face life-threatening complications at any moment.”
“Conservative estimate-three days at most.”
The condition had worsened.
Mia’s lips curved slightly. Three days was plenty. Living even one more day felt like torture now.
The nurse tried to say more, but Mia had already finished signing and left.
Walking out of the hospital entrance, she dialed the funeral home, her voice calm without a ripple of emotion.
“Move the schedule up. Three days from now.”
She felt almost eager-finally she could reunite with her parents and grandmother.
She would choose something she loved to wear, looking beautiful when she went to meet them.
After hanging up, she made one last visit to the cemetery, then hailed a taxi to the mall.
Various luxury brand stores lined the corridors, but she felt no interest in any of them.
During her years as Mrs. Cross, she had to maintain dignity and wealth. Every piece of clothing, every piece of jewelry had to reflect her status.
Even the colors of her dresses had to coordinate with Dominic’s ties.
She’d almost forgotten what she actually liked.
And Dominic never cared about her preferences either. He’d buy entire seasonal collections to stuff into her walk-in closet, telling her that except for the stars and moon in the sky, he’d give her anything she wanted.
But all she’d ever wanted from the beginning was his genuine heart.
Her eyes scanned the window displays one by one, finally stopping on a white dress-so simple it had no extra decorations, just a thin silver belt at the waist that caught the light with a gentle glow.
She imagined herself wearing this dress as she walked into the sea, her parents and grandmother smiling as they came to take her hands. She’d become her childhood self again-well-behaved, happily going home together under their protection.
Looking at the dress, her lips curved upward involuntarily.
“I’ll take this one. Credit card.”
But the moment she spoke, the dress was yanked from her hands with such force that Mia had to grab the counter to keep from being pulled down.
“I really like this dress. I want it!”
Mia looked toward the speaker, her pupils trembling for an instant.

Letty stood before her clutching the dress, no longer showing the timid deference from their previous encounters. Her head was held high, her eyes gleaming with triumph.
The sales clerk looked between them awkwardly, saying gently to Letty.
“This lady saw the dress first, and it’s our last one. Perhaps you could wait while I have headquarters transfer another one for you?”
Letty glanced at the clerk with displeasure.
“Me wait? Are you joking?”
She turned to Mia with a mocking expression:
“Whatever I want, I get. Mia, what makes you think you’re qualified to compete with me? Do you deserve it?”
“How does it feel being cursed by the entire internet? Unpleasant, isn’t it?”
“Even Dominic believes it. He’s disgusted by you now, finds you absolutely revolting.”
Mia stared directly at her twisted face. She should have guessed this was all Letty’s doing.
She hated herself for not seeing through Letty sooner. She’d made a terrible mistake from the moment she first sponsored her.
“Letty, I don’t think I’ve wronged you in any way. I paid for your education, gave you work-did that somehow wound your pride?”
“Those were your handouts, like tossing scraps to a street beggar!”
Letty’s voice suddenly rose.
“You threw money at me from your high horse, like throwing a bone to a stray dog, then demanded my gratitude.”
“But why?! Why were you born with everything while I was always beneath you, enduring contempt!”
“You owe me all of this!”
Mia asked with a trembling voice: “So you deliberately framed my parents to drag me down from the clouds?”
Letty’s lips curved in a sinister arc as she leaned close to Mia’s ear:
“That fraud case was my design from beginning to end. Your parents, those two fools, trusted me completely. They even let me keep the company seal.”
“Now your husband, your wealth, everything you’re so proud of-it’ll all be mine soon.”
“As for you, daughter of fraudsters, you’ll forever be branded on the pillar of shame as a bully. Time for you to taste what I went through!”
Mia’s entire body went rigid with rage.
She stared hard at Letty’s triumphant face, finally understanding what a venomous heart looked like.
She said each word distinctly:” You’ll get your comeuppance.”
But Letty’s expression suddenly changed. She threw the dress on the ground and collapsed dramatically, letting out a sharp scream:” Don’t!”
“Mia, I won’t dare anymore! Please stop hitting me!”

Almost simultaneously, Dominic rushed into the store from outside.
Letty immediately put on her pitiful expression, crying until her eyes were red with grievance.
“Dominic, I fell by accident. Mia didn’t push me-please don’t misunderstand.”
“But you kindly brought me shopping, and Mia misunderstood, saying I was seducing you and that I killed her parents and orchestrated the online harassment.”
“None of this has anything to do with me. Dominic, will you explain for me?”
Dominic’s gaze fixed on Mia’s pale face, his voice cold as ice.
“What did you do to Letty this time?”
Mia knew that no matter what she said, he wouldn’t believe her.
He only believed Letty!
She turned her head away and wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes.
A crowd of onlookers had gathered, some raising phones as whispered conversations rose and fell.
“Why does this woman look so familiar? Oh right, she’s that bitch who forced a pregnant woman to kneel and bullied people in school!”
“Vicious! Now she’s pushed the pregnant woman down again. If she miscarries, it could be two lives lost!”
With Dominic’s support, Letty stood up, crying as she defended Mia:
“Please don’t misunderstand. She’s just in a bad mood. When Mia’s in a good mood, she can be nice to me too.”
A middle-aged woman suddenly rushed out from the crowd, pointing at Mia and cursing:
“My daughter was killed by people like you! All bullies should go to hell!”
Those words lit the fuse. The crowd suddenly erupted into chaos.
Someone threw their milk tea at Mia, white liquid dripping down her forehead to the floor.
trying to explain, but no one listened. Her voice was drowned in a sea of curses.
ojects came flying at her, but Letty beside her was pulled protectively into Dominic’s arms.
We’re leaving.”
He didn’t spare Mia another glance, holding Letty tightly as if afraid the crowd might brush against her.
But behind them, Mia was knocked to the ground by the mob, fists and feet raining down on her like hail.
She curled into a ball, every inch of skin and bone aching until she trembled.
“Beat her to death! Let’s see if she dares bully anyone again!”
“Revenge for the victims!”
Each cry for justice became a fist striking her body as she held her head, quietly repeating.

“I didn’t…”
Through gaps in the crowd, she saw her beloved dress being trampled by countless feet, its pure white fabric stained with dirt.
Finally, consciousness began to fade.
In the last moment before darkness fell, she dimly sensed mall security arriving to disperse the crowd.
Dominic escorted Letty to the car, glancing through the rearview mirror at the chaotic mall entrance for just an instant of hesitation.
“Dominic, Mia brought bodyguards. They’ll protect her.”
Letty grasped his hand, suddenly curling up in pain.
“My stomach hurts so much. I wonder if being pushed down by her just now affected the baby.”
Dominic immediately started the car and floored the accelerator, leaving the mall and heading straight for the hospital.
