Chapter 6
Mia dragged her battered body home from the mall alone. She didn’t call the police, didn’t even go to the hospital.
Before leaving, she’d bought that stained white dress from the floor.
For two whole days, she lay quietly in bed, waiting for the countdown to death.
Dominic vanished for those two days as well. He didn’t come home, didn’t even send a text or make a call.
Until the third morning, when Mia suddenly felt energized. She retrieved the dress from her closet and applied light makeup.
She was going to keep an appointment with no return.
But just as she settled into the back seat, Dominic’s call came through, his voice carrying undeniable coldness.
“Come here, or I’ll have someone drag you here. Your choice.”
Mia quietly looked at the location he’d sent.
She understood his meaning-she had no choice.
Fine. This was her last day anyway.
Mia had the driver change direction.
The moment her car stopped at the hotel entrance, camera flashes assaulted her like a torrential downpour.
She instinctively tried to retreat into the car, but Dominic grabbed her wrist.
His grip was strong, dragging her toward the venue without explanation.
Inside, Letty sat in the front row. Behind her were dozens of rows of reporters and media, with cameras lined up in the back and even live streaming equipment.
Mia didn’t understand until she saw three bright red characters on the screen, her heart suddenly tightening.
“Apology Conference.”
Dominic pushed her onto the stage, her steps unsteady, each one feeling like walking on cotton.
A microphone was thrust in front of her as Dominic lowered his voice:
“Apologize to Letty in front of all the media.”
Mia looked at Letty, who wore a loose pink maternity dress with a faint victor’s smile on her face.
But the moment the cameras swept over, she transformed back into the timid, frightened victim.
Mia didn’t take the microphone, standing straight as she said:
“I have nothing to apologize for.”
Dominic narrowed his eyes: “Mia, don’t test my patience.”

He forced the microphone into her hands.
“Letty was threatened into indirectly causing your parents’ deaths-she had her reasons. But you? You’ve been bullying and tormenting her, nearly causing her to miscarry multiple times. Don’t you owe her an apology?”
“Letty and I have discussed this. If you apologize, she’ll forgive you. All grudges will be settled. She’ll acknowledge you as her sister and move into the house, giving you a chance to make amends.”
Listening to his self-righteous arrangements, Mia realized this so-called apology and compensation was just to legitimize their affair and give Letty’s child an official status.
She should have seen through Dominic’s hypocrisy long ago, yet couldn’t help the bitter ache in her heart.
“In what capacity are you defending Letty?”
“Dominic, you’re my husband, yet you consider her at every turn. Even with all those online rumors, did you ever once ask me if they were
true?”
“I’m starting to wonder-is the child in her belly even yours?”
Dominic’s face turned ashen instantly. He grabbed Mia’s arm, furious with embarrassment:
“Mia, this is your last chance. Otherwise, I’ll have the hospital withdraw the kidney.”
Mia actually laughed softly.
Her laughter made Dominic inexplicably uneasy.
But he quickly lowered his voice, his tone brooking no argument.
“Mia, apologize.”
Mia took the microphone, her fingertips ice-cold. All the cameras focused on her, the harsh flashes nearly blinding her.
Below the stage, Letty kept her head down, eyes reddened, fingers gently stroking her swollen belly in silent provocation.
Mia glanced at her, her voice calm and firm.
“I’ve done nothing wrong. Letty is a murderer!”
Hearing this, Dominic’s expression changed drastically, his eyes filled with incredulous fury, his grip nearly crushing her bones.
She broke free from his grasp, her gaze indifferent as she continued:
“My parents weren’t fraudsters, and I’m not a bully.”
“The biggest regret of my life was agreeing to sponsor Letty when she asked for help. Because of her, my family was destroyed.”
The entire venue erupted!
Reporters below instantly stirred, camera shutters clicking rapidly.
Letty’s expression froze momentarily before quickly returning to her pitiful look.
She choked back tears as she stood, walking toward the stage.
“Mia, why are you slandering me even now? I know you hate me, but baseless accusations can ruin me and my child’s entire lives!”

Mia watched her coldly, offering no response.
Letty suddenly quickened her pace, rushing toward her. Mia instinctively raised her hand to block.
“Ah!”
Letty’s abdomen struck the table corner heavily. She doubled over, her face instantly pale.
She looked down trembling as blood quickly soaked through her white dress.
“Blood!”
“My child…”
Dominic’s pupils contracted sharply. He rushed forward instantly, shoving Mia aside.
“Slap!”
A heavy blow struck her face. Mia staggered backward, blood seeping from the corner of her mouth.
She looked up to see the hatred in Dominic’s eyes-he looked ready to tear her apart.
“If anything happens to Letty and the child, I’ll make you pay with your life!”
With that, he swept Letty into his arms and rushed from the venue without looking back.
Reporters snapped photos frantically, shoving microphones in her face.
She tried to leave but was blocked by two bodyguards.
“Mr. Cross’s orders-you must follow to the hospital.”
Mia didn’t resist, letting them escort her to the car.
In the hospital corridor, Letty’s sobs seemed to shake the windows.
If the baby is gone, I don’t want to live either!”
e was going to be born in just over ten days-our baby… It’s all my fault. Let me go with him!”
long while, the room finally fell quiet.
e door opened and Dominic emerged, his face bearing a grief Mia had never seen.
His voice was hoarse, each word like ice.
“Mia, you disgust me.”
“All these years, I never knew you were such a vicious person.”
“Get outside and kneel to atone for Letty’s unborn child!”
“After I settle Letty, you’ll get the punishment you deserve!”
Mia opened her mouth but found her lips already numb with cold.

She wore only the thin white dress, cold creeping up her spine from her knees.
The moment Dominic finished speaking, bodyguards dragged her stiff, frozen body outside and forced her to kneel.
Mia didn’t struggle. She looked up at the sky as this year’s first snow began to fall.
