Chapter 6
There are some things in this world that can’t be measured by whether they’re “worth it” or not.
The world is full of love sick fools. Most of the time, it just comes down to whether you’re willing or not.
Like when I left Jackson all those years ago. Everyone told him I was an ungrateful bitch.
He was the only one who didn’t believe it.
He searched everywhere for me-nearly killing himself in a car crash-just so I’d say it to his face.
That hundred grand Jackson gave me? I wasn’t going to use it for chemo anymore.
That would be too hard. Too painful.
My life was already on a countdown. Instead of dragging myself through hell just to survive a little longer, I might as well make my last days
comfortable.
So I bought myself a burial plot. Right next to my parents.
When I left the cemetery, I saw my name trending online.
Someone had leaked a sex tape of me.
In the video, I was lying on a hotel bed, clothes half-off, barely conscious. A balding, pot-bellied old man in a bathrobe walked out of the
bathroom, slowly making his way toward me.
The internet detectives figured out the guy was some retired bank executive. And-
“Jesus Christ, she really isn’t picky, huh? She’d fuck a pig if it had money. Guess cash really does make the world go round.”
“She looks so innocent, but damn, she’s nasty. No standards at all. Gold diggers will do anything.”
The bank executive had retired years ago. Died of a heart attack two years back.
So naturally, all the blame fell on me.
My manager texted me:
“This is blowing up. We’ve got guys coming in asking for you by name now… Boss says you should take some time off. Let this die down. Stay
home and rest for a bit.”
I texted back:
“Okay.”
Chloe called me, voice shaking.
“Ava, what the hell is going on? I know you’re not like that…”
I let out a bitter laugh.
It didn’t matter what kind of person I was. The girl in that video was me. And that alone was enough to condemn me.
The bank executive who raped me was dead. And the dead have a lot of advantages-like how everyone suddenly forgets their sins. Like how

the past gets wiped clean. Like how you can’t defend yourself against a corpse, because no one believes you anyway.
I texted Isabella:
“We need to talk.”
Her reply immediately:
“Right now? I’m kinda busy.”
“I’m going on a business trip with my hubby. And we’ve got our anniversary trip coming up in a few days…”
I took a deep breath and typed:
“Morgan Tower, second floor, coffee shop. If you don’t want Jackson to divorce you, get your ass over here.”
