Wasteland Queen: My Harvest Power novel Chapter 39

Chapter 39 Moderate Genetic Damage

He looked sick, but his presence was strong. At first glance, he felt like a sharp blade-cold and dangerous. with a kind of pressure you couldn’t ignore.

Reina frowned and took a closer look.

Pale and handsome, he sat with his back straight. A Thunder Mercenary Corps badge was pinned to his left chest, indicating he was likely a team leader.

She wanted to use Eye of Insight on him, but they were more than three feet apart, so she couldn’t.

The car went quiet.

Then the man in the back spoke first, “Miss, is that a mutant beast horn on your backpack?”

Reina hesitated, then nodded. “I think so.”

You think so? The young man coughed lightly. “That’s from that giant beast, right? How did you get it?”

“I picked it up in the pond.” Reina tapped the broken end of the horn and explained seriously, “Look at the cut. It’s clean. There’s no way I could pull it off the beast myself.”

What a joke! Bullets couldn’t even pierce that thing. No way she could rip off its horn.

Ursula’s lips twitched. She lowered her head, avoiding everyone’s gaze.

“Yeah right,” the mercenary called Terrence couldn’t hold back. “Then go pick up another one for me right

now.”

That horn was clearly high-quality, low-contamination material. It even had a faint glow. He drove around the camp every day and had never seen anything like it.

“Why would I pick one for you?” Reina snapped back, annoyed by his attitude.

Terrence was about to argue more, but the man in the back stopped him with a look. He shut up and turned away, sulking.

The man then introduced himself. “I’m Victor Langley, captain of Unit Five, Thunder Mercenary Corps. The one by the door is Terrence Kent, my teammate.”

Reina saw how formal he was and introduced herself, too. “Reina Ashworth. And this is Ursula Grisham.”

Victor nodded. “Glad you made it back safely. This mission didn’t go the way we planned. Once we take down that giant beast, we’ll consider giving you compensation.”

Reina didn’t bother commenting.

“Didn’t go the way we planned” sounded like an excuse to dodge responsibility.

She thought for a moment, then dropped the act of being injured. She moved closer to Victor and spoke in a serious tone.

Chapter 39 Moderate Genetic Damage

“Captain Langley, since you mentioned compensation, what exactly are you offering?”

Victor didn’t expect that. He paused briefly. Then he asked, “What do you want?”

Reina pulled Ursula over, signaling her to come closer, then said, “I want an energy rifle and some high- grade energy blocks.”

It was exactly what she lacked–a long-range weapon.

Even if it couldn’t kill high-level mutant beasts, it could at least slow them down.

Terrence, by the door, immediately shouted, “You’ve got some nerve! High-grade energy blocks? Do you even know how expensive those are?”

Reina shot back, “More expensive than human lives? And didn’t your captain ask what I wanted? Now I say it, and you complain it’s too expensive? So all those lives aren’t even worth one energy rifle and a few energy blocks?”

Terrence was stunned by her logic and didn’t know what to say.

The car fell silent again.

After a while, Victor spoke. “Reina, the base has rules. Civilian teams aren’t allowed to have energy rifles. Unless you join a mercenary group, I can’t give you that.”

Now it was Reina’s turn to go quiet.

Her mind started going back and forth. Should she join a mercenary group or not?

She’d considered it before. The notorious Falcon Mercenary Group didn’t count.

But ever since she realized she could harvest stats, her thinking changed.

Mercenary members had to follow orders, take on all kinds of missions-not just scavenging or gathering, but also guarding and maintaining order. No personal time at all.

Compared to that, staying independent was better for her growth.

After thinking it through, Reina compromised. “Fine, if that’s the rule, forget the rifle. But mid- and high- grade energy blocks aren’t controlled items, right?”

As she spoke, she quietly used Eye of Insight on Victor.

“Energy -1. EXP +10. Target stats: Victor Langley. Age: 25. Physique: 35. Strength: 38. Agility: 31. Energy: 42. Level 4 Metal Ability User. (Moderate genetic damage).”

No wonder his presence was so strong. He was a Level 4 Metal Ability User.

But why did it say “moderate genetic damage”?

Victor seemed to sense something. His eyes snapped toward Reina, his expression turning cold. “You have a scouting skill?”
