Watching You Burn In Regret novel Chapter 106

Seren jolted as if shocked, her hands flying away from Lennon's waist.

Their eyes met for a split second—Lennon's gaze was warm, laced with amusement. Seren felt as though she'd been caught red-handed doing something she shouldn't. Her face flushed crimson, ears burning, and she bolted for the bathroom in a panic.

Inside, the mirror above the sink was still fogged from Lennon's recent shower. Seren wiped the glass clean, revealing her reflection—her pale cheeks now tinged with a vivid blush, like early spring blossoms blooming across her skin.

She splashed her face with cold water again and again, willing the heat to fade. By the time she emerged, Lennon was already sprawled comfortably on the bed. Seren pretended nothing had happened, slipped under the covers, and lay down as far from him as possible.

Lennon was on the left side of the bed, so she curled up on the very edge of the right, her back to him. Still, she felt every muscle taut, nerves twisting beneath her skin.

Wanting to distract herself, Seren picked up her phone, intending to reply to Seth's message. Instead, a pop-up reminder appeared on her screen:

*Grandma's memorial is tomorrow.*

Suddenly, she realized it had been nearly three years since she'd visited her grandmother's grave. The memory had almost slipped away entirely.

All she remembered was how she'd always disliked autumn—too bleak, too full of endings. Her grandmother, Old Mrs. Rutledge, had passed away in the fall during Seren's first year of college. There'd been no warning, just a stretch of endless autumn rain. When the clouds finally broke, someone so full of life had become nothing more than a small mound in the earth, forever out of reach.

After a moment, Seren messaged Seth:

*I talked it over with my husband. Any other time is fine, but I can't tomorrow—I have to visit my grandmother's grave.*

Her fingers hesitated over the word "husband," and she felt her cheeks flush again. Out of the corner of her eye, she glanced at Lennon, relieved to see he hadn't noticed.

Seth replied almost immediately.

*It's not tomorrow, it's the day after.*

*That works for me.*

After responding, Seren noticed several unread messages on WhatsApp.

Swain and Slater had both reached out, but she felt no urge to open their messages. Instead, she deleted the entire chat threads without a second thought.

Then she saw a message from Nadine and tapped it open.

*Tomorrow's Grandma's memorial. Are you coming back?*
