Watching You Burn In Regret novel Chapter 120

She spun around and stormed back to the lounge, slamming the door behind her with a resounding bang.

Everyone in the hallway fell silent at the sound. Seren had heard all those rumors during her three years at The Golden Age—enough to be numb to them by now. She'd never had much patience for gossip, nor for people who tried to get under her skin.

Her approach to others was simple: if you treat me with respect, I'll return it tenfold. But if you cross me? I believe in settling the score right away—no grudges kept overnight.

The loud slam startled Jeannie and the others. None of them had expected Seren, who always looked so gentle and quiet, to have such a fierce side.

Back in the studio, Seren had barely caught her breath before a staff member knocked and came in to brief her about the upcoming reality show.

She listened carefully and soon had a rough idea of what was expected:

The show was called The Talent Gauntlet. It was a glitzy, live-streamed competition where A-list celebrities showed off their skills in all kinds of creative challenges.

Seren had been invited as a special guest—her appearance would be brief, maybe half an hour at most, during a specific segment the next day. Her role was clear: one of the starlets wanted to play up her persona as a professional artist, and Seren, as an actual "expert," would be brought in to lend credibility. No script, no rehearsed lines—just her own professional judgment, live for everyone to see.

With the audience watching in real time, there'd be no faking it. Either she was the expert she claimed to be, or she wasn't—everyone would know.

After the meeting, another staffer quickly escorted her to a nearby hotel to rest.

Once Seren reached her room, the first thing she did was send her location to Lennon. He replied instantly with a simple "Okay," and then nothing more.

Seren freshened up, had an early dinner, and went to bed before it was even dark.

The hotel was right in the heart of Riverbend City's busiest district, but she had no desire to go out and explore. Coming back to Riverbend felt surreal—she couldn't help but think back to three years ago.

Riverbend City was a tourist hotspot on the coast. Back then, she'd grown up in Seaside City, which was landlocked and far from the ocean. She'd never seen the sea with her own eyes until her graduation trip.

That summer, she'd chosen Riverbend for her holiday. The boardwalk was packed, crowds jostling and surging until someone accidentally shoved her over the railing and into the water.

It happened so fast, no one even had time to react. The water was deep, and nobody dared jump in recklessly.

She struggled in the salty water, choking and flailing, convinced she was about to die.

Then Sheridan appeared out of nowhere, and a crew from his speedboat hauled her out and rushed her to the hospital.

Back then, Sheridan had been like a god to her, swooping in to rescue her just in time.
