After dinner.
Lennon was in his study, as usual, finishing up some work.
Seren spent a while practicing her routines in the bedroom. She had just set down her pen when her phone rang—Nadine calling.
"Your Lennon is something else," Nadine laughed. "I spent good money hiring an army of online trolls to defend Willa, but your Lennon just swooped in and crushed the whole thing. He's a real game-changer."
Seren smiled. "He's always been impressive—and he treats me well."
Nadine's tone suddenly softened. "Mind telling me what it's like… being with him?"
Seren thought for a moment. "It's relaxing. I feel safe with him. It's like… like I married the right person. It just feels good."
"Seren, have you noticed you talk more lately? Especially when Lennon comes up, your voice always lifts at the end," Nadine teased. "And trust me, after years of binge-watching rom-coms, I can tell—you've fallen for him!"
Sometimes, it took an outsider to see what you couldn't. Nadine could sense the change in Seren more keenly than Seren herself.
Back in those three years before, whenever Nadine called, Seren would mostly answer in silence, her voice heavy and subdued. Now, it was as if she were speaking to a different person entirely—her words light, her tone bright, happiness practically spilling through the phone.
Seren paused, caught off guard.
Lately, her heart had been fluttering more and more, though she wasn't quite sure what those feelings meant. But Nadine's words seemed to plant a certainty in her, giving her unspoken suspicions a quiet nod.
They chatted a bit longer, sharing bits and pieces of everyday life, before Seren ended the call.
But suspicion only takes you so far; it begs to be tested.
Seren opened her browser and typed: "What does it feel like to be in love?"
Just like last time, the search results flooded in.
Things like: "When you're in love, your heart races and you blush."
Or: "Being with that person makes you feel happy and content."
On and on the definitions went.
