Watching You Burn In Regret novel Chapter 179

With the knot in her heart finally untangled, Seren slept soundly through the night.

The next morning, after breakfast, she went upstairs to change. When she came back down, she was wearing a pale mustard-yellow dress paired with a white knit cardigan. The colors were fresh and bright, making her eyes shine and her smile radiant, her cheeks glowing with a healthy flush.

She'd chosen a pair of slender-heeled shoes that showed off her long, graceful legs and delicate waist. She moved with an effortless, swaying elegance—so much so that Lennon found himself unable to look away.

Noticing the heat of his gaze lingering on her, Seren shifted awkwardly and asked, "Does this outfit work? Does it look alright?"

Lennon had told her to dress casually, but Seren still felt like this was important—she couldn't just throw something on and call it a day.

It took Lennon a moment to pull his eyes away. When he finally spoke, his voice was gentle.

"Mrs. Crestwell, you look beautiful in anything. But the place we're going isn't accessible by car—you'll have to hike a bit."

The word "hike" was all Seren needed to hear to realize her outfit wasn't the best choice.

She hurried back upstairs and changed into a light gray tracksuit with comfortable sneakers before heading out the door.

Lennon hadn't exaggerated—they really did have to climb.

When the car stopped, Seren stepped out to see mountains rising before her, the ridges stretching endlessly and fading into the mist.

She quickly recognized the place: one of Seaside City's famous peaks, called Duskwood. It was named for the way it was always shrouded in clouds and fog.

At the heart of the mountain was Duskwood Temple, a well-known landmark that drew countless visitors every year. Legend had it that those who prayed for love at Duskwood Temple would break away from ill-fated romances and find true partners.

Seren had been here before, but only by herself, sketchbook in hand. She'd visited the temple, but hadn't prayed for anything. She'd been too young to understand what it meant to wish for love—she simply liked the ancient ginkgo tree that stood in the temple courtyard.

This time, though, they weren't headed for the temple. Their destination was Duskwood Gardens, a restaurant halfway up the mountain, where they planned to meet friends for lunch.

The group had agreed to gather at the foot of the mountain and walk up together.
