Watching You Burn In Regret novel Chapter 198

As usual, Sheridan sent a message to have someone pick up emergency birth control from the pharmacy and bring it over. He settled onto the couch by the window, his long fingers pulling out a cigar.

He lit it, but didn't take a single puff.

After indulging himself, the anger and restlessness in his body faded away, and his mind cleared.

Yet even now, he realized he still couldn't forget Seren.

Men, he thought, always have this flaw: whatever comes easily is seldom cherished; it's what they can't have that lingers in their hearts. Sheridan was no exception.

But he'd sorted things out in his head. That other man, the one who tried to make a show of claiming Seren, had unwittingly revealed just how fragile their so-called relationship really was. Why else resort to such a clumsy power play, if not to scare off the competition?

But that only sparked Sheridan's competitive streak. The more out of reach something seemed, the more determined he was to get it.

Seren had spent the night with that man; Sheridan had spent the night with Willa. In his mind, that made them even.

This wasn't the Dark Ages anymore. A man and a woman having a night together—what could be more ordinary?

Willa lay on the bed.

This time, she was perfectly clear-headed, not swept away by Sheridan's practiced tenderness like before.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Now, her only goal was simple: get pregnant with Sheridan's child and secure her place at the top.

She mentally calculated the dates—she was right in the middle of her most fertile days. As long as she didn't take that emergency pill, her chances of conceiving were very high.

When the medicine arrived, Sheridan poured a glass of warm water and popped the pill from its packaging, handing both to Willa.

"Take your medicine, Willa."

She didn't say a word. Under Sheridan's burning gaze, she took the pill and washed it down, draining the glass. Then she handed the empty cup back to him.

Sheridan took the glass and set it on the coffee table, then bent to gather the scattered clothes off the floor.

With his back turned, Willa quickly slipped the pill out from under her tongue, tossing it into the trash can beside the bed.
