Watching You Burn In Regret novel Chapter 239

Slater had received a text from an unknown number telling him that Carla was in urgent trouble and he needed to come to the community gate. Though he was furious with her, she was still his sister. He didn't like her, but he couldn't just ignore a plea for help.

But when he arrived, the first thing he saw was Carla sitting in Edwin Montgomery's car. It all clicked into place. Her disguise, the clandestine meeting—it was obvious what was going on. He had heard rumors about them before but had dismissed them as gossip. He had thought Carla was too smart to do something so idiotic.

Turns out, he was the idiot, fooled by her for years. And now, the matter of the leaked files was crystal clear. She had gotten the safe combination from him, and soon after, the data was leaked. Who else could it have been?

Slater felt a surge of bitter amusement. Carla was a paradox. She wasn't entirely stupid—she had managed to make him the scapegoat for her crime. And yet, she was foolish enough to get involved with Edwin, knowing the deep-seated rivalry between their families. She had been willing to betray her own family, to endanger the Rutledge Group, all for him. If those files in the safe had been real, she would have driven their company into the ground.

She was an absolute moron.

Slater's previous dislike for Carla had curdled into pure disgust. He was disgusted by her stupidity, her selfishness, and her willingness to sacrifice him for an outsider.

He turned to walk away just as Carla rushed after him, grabbing his sleeve.
