It would be impossible not to fall for a man like this. At least, Seren knew she couldn't. When it came to loving Lennon, she had no desire to turn back.
The traffic was heavy on the way back to Rippling Gardens. A rear-end collision up ahead had brought everything to a standstill, the road a sea of red on the navigation map. They were trapped, with a long line of cars ahead and another forming behind them.
With nothing else to do, Seren asked, "Did you have guests at the manor today?"
Lennon nodded. "Some of Grandfather's old friends. They were bored and decided to come over for a game of chess and some tea."
"That's strange," Seren said. "I thought he didn't enjoy having people over much these days."
"I'm not sure. Maybe it had something to do with us."
"Oh."
Seren didn't press further. Instead, she found herself chatting with him about anything and everything. It used to be Lennon who initiated their conversations, but now she was the one filling the silence, telling him about Nadine's gossip and even what Hilda had cooked for dinner.
Being stuck in traffic should have been frustrating. But with Lennon by her side and the sweet scent of the flowers in her lap, Seren found that it wasn't so bad. Time seemed to fly by, and before she knew it, the traffic cleared, and they were back at Rippling Gardens.
Seren showered first. When she came out, Lennon dried her hair, as was their routine, before heading into the bathroom himself.
Seren stayed under the covers, fumbling for the phone on the nightstand and pulling it into her cocoon of blankets. She lit up the screen. A new message was displayed at the top:
[Kendal: How are you going to thank me for this?]
Kendal? When had she gotten his contact information?
She blinked in confusion for a few seconds before it hit her. This wasn't her phone. It was Lennon's.
Staring at the message, Seren suddenly realized that her impression of Lennon might have been a bit one-sided. Perhaps he wasn't quite the perfect, upstanding gentleman she had imagined him to be.
