What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 223

It seemed he was also here having dinner with a friend. Beside him stood a man in his early thirties.

Kaia looked surprised and asked, "It really is a coincidence. Are you here eating with a friend?"

Silas smiled. "Yeah, talking business with a buddy. He's treating me."

Finnian cast a glance at Silas, his eyes involuntarily darkening.

Was it really a coincidence?

When Brynlee saw Silas, her little face lit up with joy. "Silas! Why are you here too? We're already halfway done eating."

Silas looked at the smiling little girl and bent down to meet her eye level. "Is that right? My friend and I just got here."

Finnian timed his interruption perfectly. "Care to join us?"

Silas felt an instant prickle of tension and quickly waved his hands. "No, no, we're eating at the table next door. Just wanted to come over and say hi."

"Silas, today is my Mom and Dad's seventh wedding anniversary! That's why we're eating here."

Silas's smile became unreadable as he looked at Kaia. "Oh, what an important milestone. I won't interrupt your celebration, then."

Maintaining a perfect sense of social boundaries, Silas took two tactful steps back.

As dinner neared its end, Silas gently placed a gift box in front of Kaia. "I bought this for you. I hope you like it."

Kaia handed him a bag in return. "I bought this for you. I hope you can use it."

"What is it?" Finnian asked.

"A fountain pen," Kaia answered.

"That's very practical," Finnian said, a smile returning to his face.

Brynlee watched happily as her parents exchanged gifts, then stared curiously at the box next to Kaia's hand. "Mom, aren't you going to open it?"

"No, I'll open it when we get home," Kaia said softly.

Brynlee nodded. "Okay, let's go home then. You can open it secretly by yourself. You'll definitely love whatever Dad gave you, because you used to love everything he gave you."

Brynlee's comment made Finnian look over at Kaia involuntarily, a complex emotion swimming in his dark eyes.

Kaia offered a faint smile. "Are you full, Brynlee? Shall we head home now?"

"Yeah, okay!" Brynlee was easily cheered up again.

Finnian checked Kaia's expression, his gaze darkening. "I'll take Brynlee back to the main estate tonight. We'll leave first thing in the morning."

Kaia simply hummed in agreement.

After dinner, Finnian paid the bill and immediately took Brynlee to the Sanders estate. Kaia returned to the villa, fully aware that Finnian was refusing to have a productive conversation with her.

Early the next morning, a private jet soared into the sky.

Kaia didn't have any major work commitments over the next few days, just routine emails. Toward evening, she received a message from Brynlee saying they had landed, complete with a photo. However, in the background of her daughter's picture, Kaia spotted Noelle carrying a piece of light luggage. She was wearing sunglasses and walking arm-in-arm with Elaine, looking like the picture-perfect daughter. Finnian was trailing behind them, carrying Brynlee.

The sight sent a shockwave of cold fury through Kaia. She hadn't expected Noelle to be on this vacation.

In that moment, she felt all the blood rush to her head, leaving her dizzy with rage.

Jane, who had appeared behind her without her noticing, frowned as she looked at the photo on the screen. "What is this? A family vacation? Hmph, they certainly aren't holding back in a foreign country. Have they no shame?"

Jane was pale with anger. Kaia gripped her phone tightly, then looked up at her mother. "Mom, do you want to go abroad? We haven't taken a trip in a while. I want to take you and Dad."
