What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 290

Finnian's face softened with pure joy and affection. He chuckled softly. "Alright, alright, I'll drink less. Don't worry, I won't get drunk."

"Fine. Why are you and Mom always so busy? I miss you guys," the little girl grumbled with a pout.

Finnian's heart melted. "I miss you too, sweetheart. I'll come pick you up for lunch the day after tomorrow."

"Okay! I'll wait for you. But you have to bring Mom to lunch too!" Brynlee was instantly pacified.

Just as Finnian opened his mouth to reply, a massive cargo ship passed nearby, blasting its deep, booming horn across the open water.

Brynlee's big, round eyes widened in shock. "Dad, what was that loud noise?"

Finnian's grip on the phone tightened. Knowing he couldn't lie his way out of this, he laughed it off. "It was a ship's horn."

"Dad! Why are you on a boat? I thought you were at a business dinner!" Brynlee instantly pouted in betrayal. "Hmph. I want to go on a boat too, but you didn't take me!"

Finnian let out a helpless laugh, scrambling for a way to calm her down.

Seeing his daughter's lips sticking out in a massive pout, he quickly promised, "Okay, okay. For your sixth birthday, I'll throw you a massive party on a yacht. How does that sound? It'll be a huge surprise."

Brynlee's face lit up with explosive excitement. "Really? Do you promise?"

Finnian stared lovingly at her beaming face. "I promise."

"Then tomorrow at lunch, we have to pinky promise..."

Just as Finnian was about to agree, a voice called out from behind him.

"Finnian, who are you talking to?"

Finnian whipped his head around. Noelle was walking out of the main hall holding a cocktail. She walked right up to him and leaned in, trying to peek at the screen. Without missing a beat, Finnian instantly yanked the phone out of her view and said quickly, "Brynlee, Dad has to go. See you tomorrow."

He hung up the moment Noelle leaned in, leaving her staring at a black screen. A cold weight dropped in Noelle's stomach, her smile freezing in place.

"Brynlee really is so clingy with you. Calling you every single night," Noelle recovered instantly, her voice dripping with artificial sweetness.

"Yeah. I practically raised her when she was a baby, so she's very attached to me," Finnian replied.

Noelle suddenly remembered those early days. Right after giving birth, Kaia had immediately thrown herself back into her relentless work schedule. Finnian was just as busy, but he ruthlessly carved out every spare second to be with his daughter. He did everything himself. When the baby needed breast milk, he would literally carry her straight into the corporate offices just so Kaia could feed her. He did it relentlessly for over a year until the baby finally switched to formula.

Remembering all of this left a sour, complicated taste in Noelle's mouth. Finnian possessed incredibly rare traits—he was devoted, fiercely loyal, and fiercely protective of those he loved. His boundless love for his daughter proved he was an incredible father.
