"You saw right through me, didn't you?" Miles sounded a little helpless.
"I saw it ages ago," Julian said with a lazy smile. "You've been harboring these feelings for years. Why didn't you try harder back then? If you had made the first move, she would already be my sister-in-law."
Miles offered a bitter smile. "I never had a chance. The person she liked... had always been Finnian."
"Wait, what?" Julian looked stunned, hearing this for the first time. "Are you saying Kaia married him out of love?"
Miles nodded, a melancholic look in his eyes. "I only found out by chance when I overheard Professor Chavez talking to Jane on the phone. Kaia had a crush on Finnian for two years. She finally got the chance to marry him because of a project. How was I supposed to make the first move? I wasn't about to force her into anything."
Julian stared at the floor thoughtfully before looking up. "No way. Finnian always claimed Kaia married him for fame and fortune. I've never heard him mention that she loved him."
A trace of pain and heartache flashed across Miles's face. "Kaia is reserved. She probably didn't want Finnian to look down on her during their marriage, so she never dared to confess her true feelings."
Julian suddenly burst into laughter. "So Finnian was kept in the dark for seven years?"
"What did you mean earlier when you said Finnian didn't deserve Kaia?" Miles frowned. "Weren't you two always best friends?"
"Don't even mention it. He's not worth it." Julian's expression darkened at the topic.
