Kaia's mind raced before she spoke. "I will compile a complete list of all Aethelstan's ongoing projects over the past year as quickly as possible. I will add my personal assessment of their risk levels next to each one."
Finnian was taken aback. He hadn't expected her to be this cautious. He nodded. "That's fine, but that's a massive workload. Can you handle it alone? Do you want me to assign someone..."
"No need. I'll find my own people to help me." Kaia rejected his offer.
Finnian's eyes darkened slightly, but he nodded. "Alright. Just don't work yourself to exhaustion."
Kaia continued, her voice calm and steady. "Once the assessment is done, before I take over, I need the conglomerate to publicly release the results regarding the remaining technical issues. It has to be published through official channels—which projects have problems, how severe they are, and what the estimated impact will be. It all needs to be clearly stated. I will not be anyone's scapegoat, and I refuse to clean up anyone else's mess."
Finnian paused for a moment before nodding. "I understand what you mean. Fine, we'll do it your way. Once the report is out, I'll have the audit and legal departments assist you. I'll also personally review the results before they are published."
Kaia nodded. Then, she presented her second condition. "I have full authority over the R&D center's personnel. I might fire a group of people soon. The conglomerate will only keep records and won't interfere, correct?"
Finnian nodded. "That's correct."
Kaia said flatly, "I will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of Aethelstan's current R&D team. Those who pass will stay. Those who fail will be cleared out entirely. You don't have a problem with that, do you, Mr. Sanders?"
Finnian blinked in surprise before a meaningful smile touched his lips. "No, I don't have a problem with it."
Kaia noticed that Finnian's attitude today was very different. He seemed unusually accommodating.
"I don't want my team wasting time writing budget reports and jumping through complicated bureaucratic hoops."
As Finnian listened to Kaia list her terms, it felt as though a light had ignited in her eyes. She seemed to come alive, radiating a relentless vitality that made it impossible not to stare.
Finnian was listening, but his focus wasn't entirely on her words. He was observing her. Only when she stopped speaking did he seem to snap out of a trance, his voice taking on a hint of warmth. "You can write down your conditions and send them to my office for my signature. I think they are all very reasonable."
Suddenly, Kaia didn't know what else to say. Finnian had derailed her train of thought.
"Anything else you want to add?" Finnian chuckled softly, amused by the rare look of confusion on her face.

The readers' comments on the novel: What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage
Finnian is finally awake to Noelle’s schemes! I hope he cuts the cord completely and brutally. He needs to truly repent and suffer the consequences for all the pain he caused Kaia and his blatant favoritism toward Noelle. Only then should there be even a slight hope of Kaia softening her heart....
