What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 587

The integration process of Constance Pharma drained far more of Kaia's energy than she had anticipated.

Aethelstan Biopharma's R&D system practically had to be torn down and rebuilt from scratch. Kaia was simultaneously untangling legacy projects and establishing new protocols. She also couldn't neglect Veridian Future. Juggling both sides meant she was working over a dozen hours every day.

She even took a month-long leave of absence from the Holistic Wellness Center, temporarily transferring her regular patients to the other doctors at the clinic.

When Linda Quinn came looking for her, Kaia was in a conference room reviewing data with Aethelstan Biopharma's project team.

Her assistant came in and whispered that a very elegant, wealthy-looking woman was asking for her, saying her last name was Quinn.

Kaia blanked for a second before realizing who it was. She quickly told her assistant to show the guest to the reception room.

She hurriedly wrapped up the meeting and headed over.

Inside the reception room, Linda was quietly waiting, flipping through some magazines.

On the coffee table next to her sat an insulated bag and a paper box.

Beside her hand was a cup of green tea the assistant had brought, which was already half empty.

Kaia walked in and greeted her, "Mrs. Quinn, what brings you here?"

Linda put down the magazine and stood up, looking her over with a warm smile. "Kaia, have you lost weight since we last saw each other? You must be so busy."

Kaia smiled. "I'm doing alright. I haven't lost much."

Kaia froze, swallowing the bite of dumpling.

Mrs. Quinn looked at her, her eyes filled with hope but also a careful, testing hesitation.

"You know how Simon is. He's incredibly articulate at work, but the moment he's in front of you, he turns mute. But I can tell he deeply admires you and really likes you. I just... I'm getting anxious," Mrs. Quinn paused. "I came today mainly to see where you stand."

Kaia looked down at the steaming dumplings in the box and said softly, "Mrs. Quinn, I have far too much going on at the company right now. I work until midnight every day, and I barely have time for my daughter. I really don't have the time to think about dating."

Mrs. Quinn's eyes dimmed slightly. As a woman, she understood the subtext. Kaia had just gotten divorced, and her ex-husband's company was currently embroiled in a massive, humiliating scandal. It was completely understandable that she had lost faith in men.

What a poor girl. Mrs. Quinn's expression grew even gentler. "That's perfectly fine. Don't even think about marriage. Just treat him like a friend. Simon won't pressure you. We completely respect your wishes."
