What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 610

Thinking back to the days he had stood against Kaia, Finnian's face burned with humiliation. He must have been out of his mind back then. To protect Noelle, he had positioned himself as an adversary to his own wife. He had constantly accused Kaia of being too dominant, of never knowing when to let things go. Standing in the harsh light of the truth, revisiting his past actions made him want to strike himself across the face.

"Mom, let's just focus on getting you abroad for the surgery first," Finnian said gently, knowing that dwelling on the past wouldn't change anything. Handling the crisis at hand was all that mattered.

"Alright. I'll go with you. But before we leave, shouldn't you go say something to Kaia and Brynlee? Don't tell them about the cancer. Just... give them a proper goodbye." Having calmed down, Elaine looked up at her son.

"I'll do it. I'll go see them right now. Our flight is first thing in the morning." Finnian glanced at his watch. "Mom, get some sleep. No more staying up late."

Elaine nodded. "I know. When you see Kaia, try to say something nice for once. Don't be so terribly stubborn with your words."

Finnian paused, a self-deprecating smile touching his lips. "Mom, I want to say the right things, but I'm not sure Kaia even wants to hear them anymore."

"Do you love her?" Elaine asked, cutting straight to the heart of the matter.

Finnian pressed his lips together, remaining silent, though a faint flush crept up his neck.

Seeing this, Elaine let out a soft laugh. "You. You feel everything so deeply, but you refuse to let a single word cross your lips."

Facing his mother, Finnian cast aside his pride and admitted plainly, "I have no right to say I love her. I can't even bring myself to form the words."

"Then it proves you don't like her enough. If you really cared, even a Block of Wood would sing love songs on stage." Elaine looked at him with suspicion. "You don't still have feelings for Noelle, do you?"

"Absolutely not." Finnian's expression turned frigid. "In the past, I only ever looked out for her like a sister. Maybe I overstepped boundaries in taking care of her, but I swear I never had a single impure thought about her."
