What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 611

Kaia spoke calmly, "Brynlee lives with me now. Taking care of her is my responsibility. You don't need to say anything."

Finnian felt his face warm slightly. He looked at Kaia for a moment and said, "I'll get going, then. Keep the gifts."

Kaia glanced at his bags. She took them, pulled out the one meant for Brynlee, and handed the rest back to him. "I'm not accepting your things anymore. Take them back."

Finnian's heart felt as if it had taken a heavy, suffocating blow. In the past, whenever Kaia received a gift from him, she would light up with joy, her eyes shining as she thanked him. Now, he couldn't even give her a carefully prepared present.

"Alright. Happy early New Year, then," Finnian said. He turned his tall frame and walked away, disappearing into the city lights.

Kaia headed toward the elevator, a suffocating wave of frustration building in her chest. Finnian's unnecessary gestures were genuinely annoying her. Since they were divorced, they should have cut ties completely. She hadn't bothered him, so why was he suddenly trying to show affection? He had found out about her past crush on him. Did he think she was still hung up on him and could be lured back with minor favors? Did he want the best of both worlds—making Noelle his wife while keeping Kaia as a lover? Sometimes, Kaia really couldn't understand men's greed. True monogamy was just a myth; such pure devotion didn't exist.

Back inside, Kaia gave Brynlee her gift. Brynlee opened it to find the exact Custom White Rocking Horse she had been wanting. After putting in the batteries, she placed a little figure on it. The horse spun while playing a soft melody.

"Mommy, Daddy had this specially made for me!" Brynlee said, placing it in the living room and turning off the lights. The canopy of the horse projected twinkling stars onto the ceiling, and the music transformed the room into a magical wonderland. "He said it's a one-of-a-kind toy."

Kaia stared at the toy in surprise. "He didn't buy this at the mall?"
