"Did something happen?" Kaia hadn't kept in touch with the Sanders family since her divorce from Finnian. Josephine had invited her to dinner several times, but she always found an excuse to decline.
A cold sneer flashed in Silas's eyes. "She ruined herself. Not only did she lose the family's backing, but she recently lost her baby, too. Women like her don't deserve to be mothers. She only got pregnant with Rafael's child to secure her place and fight for the inheritance. But she miscalculated. She thought having the baby would make Finnian treat them as his own. She forgot one crucial detail—men only truly love their biological children. Even if it's a niece or nephew, they won't give them their entire heart."
Kaia listened in shock. Once the initial surprise faded, she realized just how greedy Noelle had been. Every calculated step had destroyed whatever goodwill she had left, exposing her true, vicious nature. People naturally gravitated toward kindness; no one wanted to associate with someone so toxic. Perhaps Finnian had finally abandoned Noelle because he couldn't stand her two-faced behavior either.
"I heard from the Matriarch that Finnian cut all ties with her," Silas continued. "It seems he finally realized how blind he's been. He must be filled with regret, but there are no do-overs in life. Kaia, would you ever give him another chance?" Silas locked his dark gaze on her, watching for the slightest shift in her expression.
Kaia looked down at the floor. "I don't recycle trash," she said flatly.
Silas burst out laughing. "If he heard you say that, his face would turn black as coal."
"Let's drop it. I have another meeting," Kaia said, turning to leave. She truly hadn't expected Finnian and Noelle to end up apart. She always thought his devotion to Noelle was so absolute that he would accept her no matter how terrible she was. After all, love was blind.
Just before the holidays, Sophia returned to the country. Leo had somehow managed to win her back, and he booked a table at a restaurant for a celebratory family dinner.

The readers' comments on the novel: What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage
Finnian is finally awake to Noelle’s schemes! I hope he cuts the cord completely and brutally. He needs to truly repent and suffer the consequences for all the pain he caused Kaia and his blatant favoritism toward Noelle. Only then should there be even a slight hope of Kaia softening her heart....
