What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 615

Looking at the tearful woman across from him, Gordon felt a pang of sympathy. "Noelle, what exactly happened recently? Why did the family turn their backs on you so completely?"

Noelle's eyes shifted, and she let out a quiet sob. "Gordon, I really don't want to talk about it anymore. After all, I'm not a biological daughter of the Sanders family. When the scandal hit Aethelstan, someone had to take the fall."

Gordon flared up in anger. "Finnian is a monster! Did he know Aethelstan was a sinking ship all along? Is that why he promoted you—just to use you as a scapegoat? And now that Aethelstan and Veridian Future have merged, Kaia reaps all the benefits. Was he just gift-wrapping the companies for her?"

Noelle feigned a look of confusion and shook her head gently. "I don't know. Like I said, I really can't figure out how men's minds work. It's impossible to guess."

"Do you want me to have a word with him?" Gordon was overwhelmed by a protective urge to defend the woman he cared about. It just seemed so unfair.

"No, Gordon, it's fine," Noelle said, gently tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear, her voice laced with vulnerability and helplessness. "As long as the dust settles, I don't mind taking the hit."

"You're always like this—too selfless for your own good," Gordon muttered, taking a frustrated sip of his drink. "So, what are your plans now?"

"I want to stay in the industry, of course. This is what I know. I'm still confident in my technical abilities," Noelle said, offering a soft smile. "Though, with Kaia around, getting a foothold won't be easy. But I won't let it break me. I'll keep trying."

Gordon looked at her with relief and offered words of encouragement. "I know you can do it. I'll keep looking for better research facilities to recommend you to."

"Thank you, Gordon," Noelle said, placing a piece of meat into his bowl. "I'm so lucky to have a friend like you."

Gordon's face turned a deep shade of red as he quietly ate the food she offered.

Upstairs on the second floor, Kaia walked into the private dining room. Seeing her family gathered around the table instantly lifted her mood.
