What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 616

Brynlee blinked. "But last time Uncle Leo drank, he cried! Like, really loud crying. Even I don't cry that loud."

Leo's face turned beet red while Sophia gave him a look of pure disgust. "Are you serious? A grown man bawling over a few drinks?"

"Brynlee, can we not talk about Uncle Leo's business?" Leo hadn't expected the kid to out him like that. Jane shot her son a disapproving glare. She had told him to take it easy that night and not embarrass himself, but he hadn't listened. He had gotten so wasted he barely knew his own name and spent hours sobbing into a throw pillow.

Brynlee giggled and nodded. "Okay!"

Even though Sophia verbally roasted him, hearing about Leo crying over her actually made her think he was kind of cute. It deepened her understanding of him.

After dinner, Kaia and her family left the private room, chatting and laughing together. The atmosphere was incredibly warm.

Not far away, Noelle and Gordon were still at their table. Noelle turned and watched Kaia's family. Seeing their obvious love and support for each other ignited a dark flame of jealousy in her chest.

Kaia had the backing of an educated, stable family. She had an easier path to success than most people. Her achievements were intrinsically tied to that privilege.

Gordon noticed where she was looking. "Don't focus on her. Everyone has their own path. You don't need to measure yourself against her."

Noelle crossed her arms and let out a dramatic sigh. "I just wish I had been born into a family like that. Instead, the family I spent eighteen years with tossed me out like garbage the second I became inconvenient. People are so cold."
