What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 617

Those words hung over Noelle like a guillotine, scaring her half to death.

At that exact moment, she realized Martha had betrayed her.

When she called to confront the housekeeper, the phone was disconnected. She even went to the Sanders estate to intercept her, only to learn from Giles, the butler returning from errands, that Martha had been fired and sent back to her hometown.

Over the past few days, Noelle finally understood that all her hopes had been completely extinguished.

Finnian had discovered her vicious plot to curse Kaia and Brynlee, yet he hadn't completely destroyed her. That restraint was his final act of mercy, a nod to whatever history they once shared.

Three days before the New Year, Kaia finally started her holiday break.

Early that morning, Jane and Warren left to visit relatives in another city, and Layla went back to her hometown. It was just Kaia and Brynlee alone in the apartment.

Eventually, the little girl got bored. Kaia tried coloring with her, building legos, and watching cartoons, but Brynlee just scrunched up her eyebrows and sneaked off to call Anna.

A few minutes later, Kaia's phone rang. It was Simon.

"Brynlee mentioned it's just the two of you at home today. Why don't you come over to our place for lunch?" Simon offered softly.

"Would we be intruding? Honestly, we could just throw something together here," Kaia replied, glancing at the fridge. Before Layla left, she had prepped plenty of dumplings and steaks. Cooking a quick meal would be effortless.

"Anna is bored out of her mind too. Bring Brynlee over. My grandmother and mother would love to have you," Simon said. His deep, warm voice was incredibly inviting in the quiet days leading up to the new year.

Unable to refuse such genuine hospitality, Kaia took Brynlee to the Quinn estate.
