Hearing Simon's words, Kaia's expression shifted slightly. She picked up her tea and took a slow sip. "I'm not sure I follow, Mr. Quinn."
"You know exactly what I mean," Simon said, his dark eyes fixed intently on hers. "It's the end of the year. This year has felt incredibly long to me. Kaia, I won't force you, and I won't pester you, but please, give me a chance to prove myself."
Kaia sighed softly, looking toward the room where the girls' laughter was echoing. She traced the rim of her teacup, her voice tinged with hesitation. "It's not that I don't want to give you a chance. It's just that I'm freshly divorced, and I'm not ready to dive back into dating. I have to prioritize Brynlee's feelings. She's so young right now. I want to wait until she's a bit older and can understand things better."
A flicker of disappointment passed through Simon's bright eyes. He murmured, "Your daughter's life is important, but what about yours? Time flies. Year after year passes. You're young now, but time waits for no one."
Kaia knew he had a point. Truthfully, she did want to move forward. Lately, she had been plagued by dreams of the past, and Finnian was in every single one. In those dreams, she would break down, crying and begging to know why he hadn't truly loved her once in seven years. Dream-Finnian would stand far away, like mist across a river, saying things she couldn't remember upon waking. The emotional exhaustion of being dragged back into the past was starting to ruin her sleep.
"Okay," Kaia said, looking up at him. "Let's give it a try. But I take things very slow emotionally. I might not be the most fun or romantic partner. I hope you don't find me boring."
Simon was stunned. He hadn't expected to get the answer he so desperately wanted. After a few seconds of pure shock, wild joy flooded his eyes. "Really? Then let's try. I don't mind if you take things slow; I'll take the initiative."
"You can't always be the one putting in the effort," Kaia said, shaking her head. "I work long hours, I have endless meetings, and I need to make time for Brynlee. I probably won't be able to give you as much time as you'd like."

The readers' comments on the novel: What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage
Finnian is finally awake to Noelle’s schemes! I hope he cuts the cord completely and brutally. He needs to truly repent and suffer the consequences for all the pain he caused Kaia and his blatant favoritism toward Noelle. Only then should there be even a slight hope of Kaia softening her heart....
Why does this book take so long to update, instead of 5 chapters mentioned above, we are getting about one chapter a day on average! please do not leave the readers on cliffhangers! thank you....
Please update soon. This story is good. And I'm hoping it won't go till 2000 chapters.. Although it's current slow pace is telling....
