Kaia stiffened completely. Instinctively, she grabbed the man's arms, pried them off, and took two steps forward.
Finnian froze, a wave of embarrassment washing over his eyes.
Kaia spoke with a frosty tone, "It's getting late. I'm taking Brynlee home."
Finnian stood rigidly in the hallway. After a few seconds of silence, he finally went downstairs to see the mother and daughter out.
As the year drew to a close, many people cleared their schedules and picked an auspicious day to visit The Temple as a family.
Jane didn't come because she and Warren Chavez had promised to visit relatives for dinner.
Kaia brought Brynlee along, riding in Simon Quinn's car.
When they arrived at the foot of the mountain, they looked up to see that the morning mist still clung to the peaks.
They hiked up the flagstone path, accompanied by the crisp morning breeze and dew.
Eleanor Quinn had also come, with Linda Quinn walking by her side. Simon carried the two children up the trail by himself.
Anna and Brynlee were beaming with joy.
Kaia helped carry the basket of offerings.
In that moment, they truly looked like a picture of happiness.
They walked a bit, rested, and then continued until they finally reached the entrance of the main hall.
Linda and Eleanor went in to pray. Kaia stayed behind to watch the two kids, playing with them in the courtyard.
Simon paused at the entrance and told Kaia, "I'm going to find the abbot to discuss something."
Kaia nodded.
Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the pine needles, casting dappled shadows all over them.
The two kids rarely visited the mountains, so even a single pinecone could keep them chattering for ages.
Kaia sat on a nearby bench, watching them. She thoroughly enjoyed this moment of leisure and relaxation.
Perhaps she shouldn't be so consumed by her career. She needed to make more time to be with her child.
Turning her head, she glanced through a side door and spotted Simon's tall, lean figure.

The readers' comments on the novel: What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage
Finnian is finally awake to Noelle’s schemes! I hope he cuts the cord completely and brutally. He needs to truly repent and suffer the consequences for all the pain he caused Kaia and his blatant favoritism toward Noelle. Only then should there be even a slight hope of Kaia softening her heart....
Why does this book take so long to update, instead of 5 chapters mentioned above, we are getting about one chapter a day on average! please do not leave the readers on cliffhangers! thank you....
Please update soon. This story is good. And I'm hoping it won't go till 2000 chapters.. Although it's current slow pace is telling....
