Kaia stared at him in utter shock. Since when had Finnian become so emotionally volatile?

He was actually standing there with red eyes, speaking to her as if he had been profoundly wronged.

"Finnian, it's late. Go home and get some rest," Kaia advised quietly.

"That house... is too empty. I don't want to go back." Finnian suddenly stepped forward, grabbing both of her arms. A flicker of raw panic and desperation flashed in his eyes. "Kaia, will you come back with me? Please?"

"What are you talking about?" Kaia shoved him away violently, stumbling back two steps. "We're divorced. I am never going back to that house again."

The forceful shove seemed to snap him out of his daze slightly. He pressed a hand to his throbbing forehead, letting out a self-deprecating laugh. "Right. You stopped loving me a long time ago. You don't want to go back. But I got so used to having you around. Without you there, I don't know what to do."

"Stop acting like a lunatic. You'll get used to it. You always get used to it," Kaia snapped, turning sharply toward the elevator.

Finnian leaned heavily against the wall, his breathing ragged. He turned his head, watching Kaia's heartless departure, fighting a desperate urge to run after her and pull her into a hug.

Kaia pressed the elevator button, throwing him one last cold glance before stepping inside without a word.

It was past 1 AM, and Kaia was still awake when her phone suddenly rang.

She answered the call, but no one spoke on the other end.

The only sound was heavy, ragged breathing, like a man completely intoxicated.

Kaia checked the caller ID. It was Finnian's name.

He had been so erratic today. Kaia gripped her phone in silence.
