Chapter 1974 Get Yourself Checked Too
Hearing that, Denise immediately objected. “What for? You should stay here and rest.”
It was her rare day off, and she could tell Magnus' injuries were still healing.
“I'm bored out of my mind here,” Magnus said. “Just let me tag along.”
He didn't dare go out alone, afraid someone might recognize him.
Seeing how insistent he was, Denise gave in. “Fine, but you'll have to wait outside. Don't let my parents see you.”
“No problem,” Magnus replied without hesitation. He put on a newly bought outfit, wore a hat, and covered himself up properly before heading out with Denise.
They squeezed onto a crowded public bus.
Magnus frowned. “Why aren't we taking a taxi? There are way too many people.”
“Save money,” Denise said flatly.
Magnus looked at her, baffled. “You must've made decent money this month, right? Why be so stingy?” He'd never been short on money, so he couldn't understand Denise's mindset.
Denise didn't respond. When they reached the bus stop, she got off quickly, and Magnus followed behind her.
At the hospital, Denise headed straight to the payment counter. She hadn't received her paycheck yet, so she was only able to make a partial payment.
“I'm getting paid tomorrow. I'll settle everything then, please,” Denise begged, her eyes pleading with the nurse.
The nurse, who was familiar with Denise's situation, didn't make things hard. “Okay,” she said. “Just make sure you come in early tomorrow.”
“Thank you,” Denise said, relieved.
“Go visit your parents,” the nurse added. Then she stopped her and said, “And... when you get a chance, get yourself checked too.”
Some conditions could run in families.
When they got to the ward, she told Magnus to wait outside. She pushed the door open, forcing a smile. “Mom, Dad.”
“Denise, you're here! Are you off work today?” her mother asked, sitting up. Her father smiled warmly.
“Yeah, I came to visit you guys.” Denise nodded.
Her father chuckled. “You silly girl. There's nothing interesting about us.”
“Yeah, there's no need to come all the way. By the way, Denise, when are we getting discharged?” her mom asked weakly. “It's too expensive to stay here every day. We should just go home.”
“Mom, Dad, just stay and rest. Don't worry about the money. I told you, I make good money now. The hospital bills aren't a problem,” Denise reassured them.
Even after hearing that, her parents still wanted to be discharged, which made Denise visibly upset.
“Dad, Mom, if you keep insisting, I'm really going to get mad.”
