Back when Cecilia had been the neglected daughter of the Smith family, James and Jonah ignored her, even allowing their daughters to bully her.
Now that she had become rich and influential as the heir to the Jamieson family, they came to fawn over her. It was laughable.
Naturally, Cecilia wouldn't let them have their way or respect them.
"Why are you calling yourselves my uncles? Is there some kind of misunderstanding? My mother didn't have any siblings," she said.
That single sentence caused James' and Jonah's faces to stiffen, and their expressions turned sour.
The guests who thought James and Jonah were Cecilia's uncles couldn't help but gasp.
"So they were just falsely claiming to be related to her. I knew I hadn't heard of the Jamieson family having a son, much less two," one uttered.
"The Jamieson family did have a son, but he was adopted, and he went to jail at a young age, though no one knows what crimes he committed," someone else revealed.
"James and Jonah are truly shameless for claiming to be Cecilia's uncles," one commented and laughed.
Everyone mocked James and Jonah.
At that moment, a voice emerged. "That's not exactly true. Didn't you know? Cecilia was adopted, and her adoptive mother was a daughter of the Escobar family. So, James and Jonah are technically Cecilia's uncles."
"Huh? Is that so?" someone exclaimed in shock.
When the other guests heard that person's words, they had thoughtful looks on their faces.
One lowered their voice and said, "If she's adopted, then she is indeed James and Jonah's niece. But why won't she acknowledge her two uncles?"
"What else could it be? She's climbed up the social ladder, so naturally, she looks down on the paupers," one person replied.
Everyone chattered away, with Cecilia becoming the topic of conversation.
However, their voices were very soft as they only dared to discuss it privately.
Although Cecilia didn't hear their conversation, she could roughly guess what was being said based on their expressions.

The others continued to watch the drama, unable to believe that Eloise had almost killed Cecilia.
"That happened when we were young and ignorant," Eloise explained.
"So, you're not denying that you bullied me when we were little?" Cecilia continued to press.

"We were kids back then. Quarrels and fights were very normal," Eloise said.
Heather chimed in, "I can't believe you still remember such a small thing. Cecilia, aren't you just petty?"
Eloise and Heather sang the same tune, twisting the facts to imply that Cecilia was being petty.
Cecilia didn't get angry as she knew it was useless.
