When Her Death Couldn't Break Him (Cecilia and Nathaniel) novel Chapter 2304

"Now that everything's clear, you don't have to keep staying by my side all the time anymore. I'm fine," Cecilia said.

Nathaniel shook his head. "No. I'm still not used to it."

He had been with Cecilia every day for so long that the thought of suddenly separating from her didn't sit right with him at all.

Seeing how he was, Cecilia could only look at him in helpless silence.

"Fine. But you need to change that little by little."

Having him cling to her all the time was a hassle too.

She wanted some private time of her own.

Nathaniel agreed out loud. "Okay, okay, okay. I'll do whatever you say."

The next day.

Nathaniel really didn't follow Cecilia to work this time.

He only had people keep watch over her, while he used work as an excuse and went back to Imminence Corporation himself.

When Lucille and Charlotte found out Nathaniel had gone back to Imminence Corporation, both of them stared in shock.

Lucille blurted out, "Since when did Mr. Rainsworth suddenly change like this?"

Charlotte lowered her voice. "Cecilia, you didn't get into a fight with him, did you?"

Cecilia shook her head. "No. We're good. I just talked to him, and he agreed."

Of course, Cecilia couldn't tell them the truth—that Nathaniel had misunderstood her a year ago.

"Oh. Okay, then."

Neither Lucille nor Charlotte looked convinced.

Cecilia only smiled and didn't explain any further.

Instead, she said to them, "Today we're going to shop properly, eat together, and catch a movie."

At least this time, there was finally no third wheel.

Lucille and Charlotte nodded again and again.

Somewhere else.

Nathaniel hadn't gone back to Imminence Corporation at all. He'd gotten on a plane and gone to see Nicholas instead.

Inside the dim little room, Nicholas sat slumped over, worn down to the point of looking half-dead. He held Jocelyn's file the guard had given him in his arms, and his face looked blank.

Only when the door was pushed open from outside and light spilled in did something finally change in his eyes.

Nathaniel came in against the light and walked toward him one step at a time.
