Whether it was coincidence or not, far away in Tudela, Jocelyn was having a dream too.
In her dream, she had actually married Nicholas, and they even had a child.
When she woke up, something inside Jocelyn suddenly felt hollow.
She couldn't tell why, but too many things rose at once and refused to settle.
She turned her head and looked beside her.
A tiny child was sleeping there by her side.
On the child's other side was her husband, Yannick.
With sleep still on him, Yannick looked strikingly handsome. Sunlight spilled across his body and softened his whole face, making him look even gentler.
The corner of Jocelyn's mouth lifted before she even noticed it. She reached out and touched their adorable son, then moved her hand to Yannick's cheek and gave it a light stroke.
Yannick felt the touch on his face. Without opening his eyes, he raised a hand, caught hers, and drew her into his arms.
"Are your hands cold? I'll warm them for you." He still didn't open his eyes. Everything he did came as naturally as breathing.
Jocelyn watched him and stayed very still. The way he treated her settled over her whole body like warmth.
But right after that, something else pressed in on her.
How could she have a dream like that?
She had a child now. She had a husband who loved her deeply, treated her well, and was good in every way, so why had she dreamed about Nicholas?
And on top of that, she had even dreamed that the two of them got married.
Jocelyn had never believed Nicholas had truly liked her.
Just then, Yannick slowly opened his eyes and looked at her. "Why are you up so early? Did our baby wake you?"
He turned to look at the baby beside them. The little one was still sleeping soundly.
Yannick sat up, picked up the baby, and placed him in the cradle beside the bed.
Then he leaned toward Jocelyn as if it were the most natural thing in the world and gathered her whole body up into his arms.
Jocelyn's face turned red.
"What are you doing this early in the morning? Put the baby back. I want to hold our baby."
