When Love Finds Its Way Back (Cassienne and Dreston) novel Chapter 117

Chapter One Hundred And Seventeen: What They Could Be Again.

The black sleek car slowed as it turned through the familiar iron gates.

Cassienne’s fingers tightened slightly around the strap of her handbag as the mansion came into view.

Five years.

Five years of her life had been lived within those white walls.

Her driver pulled up smoothly in front of the grand entrance. The fountain at the center of the circular driveway was still running, water cascading in soft silver streams under the late morning sun.

Nothing had changed. Or perhaps everything had.

The driver stepped out first and opened the back door for her.

Ma’am,he said respectfully.

Cassienne nodded and stepped out.

The air felt different here. And then she saw Dreston.

Dreston stood at the top of the short marble steps leading into the house. He was dressed entirely in whitesilk shirt tucked neatly into tailored white trousers. The fabric caught the sunlight, outlining his tall, broad frame. His sleeves were folded just enough to reveal his wrists, his hands resting casually inside his pockets.

He looked composed. Striking. And untouchable. His gaze never left her as she closed the distance between them. For a brief second, neither of them spoke.

Welcome back,he said finally. His tone was polite. It was calm, and controlled.

Cassienne gave a small nod. “Thank you.

He stepped aside, allowing her to enter first. The doors opened. And the scent of the house, polished wood, subtle lavender, and something uniquely Tremont, hit her like a memory.

Mrs. Rawlings was already standing near the foyer.

Mrs. Trem-The older woman stopped herself, then smiled warmly. Cassienne.

Emotion flickered across the housekeeper’s face.

It’s so good to see you,she said sincerely.

Cassienne’s lips curved gently. It’s good to see you too, Mrs. Rawlings.

The woman looked like she wanted to say more. To ask if she was staying. To ask if things were mended.

But she simply nodded and gestured toward the living room.

They moved inside.

Cassienne stepped into the space that had once been hers. The cream sofas. The glass center table.

The tall windows that overlooked the garden. Her gaze lifted slowly to the wall opposite the staircase.. Her breath caught.

Their wedding photos were still there. Framed in gold and perfectly aligned. And untouched. She had expected them to be gone. Or even packed and hidden away from people.

But they were exactly where she had left them. A strange warmth spread through her chest like pride.

Then confusion and pain followed. Dreston noticed the direction of her gaze. But he said nothing.

Mrs. Rawlings returned shortly with a tray. I brought you coffee, she said softly.

Cassienne accepted the cup with both hands. “Thank you.”

The woman lingered for a moment longer, looking between them with quiet hope. Then she left them alone.

A small silence settled between them. Cassienne sat on the cream sofa.

Dreston took the one opposite her, his posture relaxed but attentive.

She wrapped her fingers around the warm porcelain cup.

So,he said after a moment. What now?

She looked up.

What do you want? And when exactly are we expecting her?

Cassienne inhaled slowly.

She’ll be here in two days, she replied. We have to pick her up together.”

Dreston nodded once. Of course.

AndShe hesitated.

Dreston noticed her hesitation. But he said nothing.

Her fingers tightened around the cup again.

We’ll have to move back in together. As husband and wife.

Dreston already has this information. He knew what they needed to do.

For one month,she clarified quickly.

She forced herself to continue.

She’ll want to see us together. As a normal couple. We can’t risk anything triggering her.”

Her voice lowered slightly.

We’ll have to share a room.

The hesitation in her tone did not escape him. Dreston leaned back slightly, studying her face.

I understand,he said quietly. She blinked, surprised by the ease of his response.

We need to be convincing,he continued. “If she senses distance, it will defeat the purpose.

His voice softened.

We’ll do what we have to do.

Cassienne nodded slowly.

It’s just for one month, she repeated.

Yes,he agreed. Just one month.

But neither of them were naive enough to think proximity would be simple. Dreston shifted slightly.

It would be best if you moved back in tonight,he added. Settle in before she arrives.

Cassienne looked around the room again. Tonight? Back here? In this house, in that bedroom of his? The room they never shared together.

Her chest tightened, but she nodded.

You’re right. Better to prepare now than scramble later.

When they had both silently accepted the arrangement, Dreston changed the subject.

Now. Back to business.

Her eyes flicked to him immediately.

There have been offers coming in.” he said. Many. Global investors. Esport sponsorship deals. Brand

endorsements.

He folded his hands together.

I haven’t responded to any of them yet.

Why?she asked softly.

I was waiting for you.He held her gaze steadily. You need time to decide what you want.

She appreciated that. And smiled.

Let’s talk about that later, she said gently. There’s too much happening right now.
