Cassienne walked through the hospital corridor to Dreston’s room. She stood in front of the door for a long moment, her fingers hovering over the handle.

The hallway lights reflected faintly on the polished floor beneath her feet. Somewhere in the distance, a nurse’s shoes clicked softly as she walked past.

But none of it reached Cassienne’s mind. Her thoughts were focused on the room in front of her.

Dreston was inside and awake. That was all that mattered to her.

Her heart beat harder the closer she stood to the door. For hours she had imagined this moment. A small part of her had hoped for something impossible.

Maybe when he sees her again… Things might change and his memory will come back to normal. Her fingers trembled slightly.

Cassienne lifted her hand and knocked gently. The sound was soft.

“Come in.” Dreston’s voice answered, and she froze.

Even now, that voice could still make her heart race. She slowly opened the door and stepped inside the

Sunlight filtered softly through the tall window beside the bed. Machines hummed quietly in the background, their steady rhythm reminding her that the man lying on the hospital bed was still healing.

Cassienne’s eyes immediately went to him. He looked pale, but awake.

His dark curly hair was slightly messy, his strong features sharper now against the white hospital pillow. The bandage around his head was still there, and the monitors beside him blinked steadily.

For a moment, Cassienne’s breath caught. At least, he was alive. That alone made her chest tighten with

relief.

But then her eyes shifted slightly. And she saw Tina.

Tina was sitting beside the bed. Her chair was just beside it. Her hands were wrapped around Dreston’s hand, holding it gently like she wouldn’t let go.

Cassienne’s fingers curled slightly at her side. She stepped forward slowly.

Dreston noticed her as she walked closer. His grey eyes lifted and met hers.

Cassienne held her breath.

This was the moment.

Maybe… Maybe something would change. Maybe recognition would flash in those eyes.

Or at least, maybe he would say her name the way he used to.

Cassienne swallowed. Her eyes searched his face, almost desperately. But nothing in his expression changed. No warmth. No recognition.

He was just polite, and distant.

Tina spoke suddenly. “Oh, Cassienne, thank you for coming to check on him.”

Cassienne’s gaze slowly moved to her.

Tina’s face was calm. If for anything, she looked friendly. She smiled warmly, like they were still close friends.

“I really appreciate it,” Tina continued gently. “It means a lot that you came.”

Cassienne stared at her.

For a second, anger flashed through her chest so sharply it almost took her breath away.

Everything that had happened. All the lies and betrayal. The years that had been stolen from her.

And yet Tina sat there smiling like nothing had ever happened. Like she hadn’t destroyed everything.

Cassienne clenched her jaw quietly. She wanted to scream. She wanted to drag Tina out of that chair.

She wanted to expose every lie. But she couldn’t. At least not now. Not with Dreston watching. And not when his brain still needed rest.

So she forced herself to stay calm.

Her eyes moved briefly to Cassienne’s stomach.

“You’re pregnant, right?”

The room seemed to tilt slightly.

Cassienne’s heart dropped violently in her chest. Her eyes snapped toward Dreston.

His reaction was immediate.

Shock crossed his face. Then confusion. Then something more. His hand slowly pulled away from Tina’s.

His grey eyes locked onto Cassienne. And this time they weren’t cold.

They were sharp, and accusing.
